Very interesting question. I never really thought about it in that way. Based on the turn generation timing, the game will go 229 days, not counting breaks, if the game goes to 100 turns. When I played a lot, most games would end by turn 100. So probably 8 months, unless the game is well balanced and goes longer, then I could see it taking a lot longer. If it goes another 40 turns that is 5 months more...
Quote:If you're looking to balance the universe based on already submitted races, you can just tell me what race type you think I should be and I'll design it. Its been long enough since I played that I really have no preference at this point.
Generally everyone designs their race in secret, so there is no way to know what to build for balance. And if some people know what other races were in the game... they might build races to counter those.
I have played just about everything. So I may have a friend design the race for me, just so I get a surprise.

I would love to play, also, since the other game is over, but have nothing in the hole. I could resubmit the Cops , they were an excellent race, but Wouter would have an unfair advantage against me. That being said, I would need more than just a couple days, maybe a week. Through a weekend I could get er done.
Josh
Edit: The Cops were an excellent race, and I owe much of my success to Altruist's suggestions. Thank you Altruist.

All the races are in, and we have a full board of 11 players! I consider it an honor that you let me referee you all, and I'm currently doing my globular best to make a good universe for all.
Having done this a time or four, the one thing I can guarantee is that I have no idea what's going to happen when I let you crazy sons of mothers loose on this universe. But I do very much hope you'll have fun.
Submissions are closed, universe building is going on full speed, and I my goal is to have it ready Wednesday evening latest. I'll send an email presently with a rule reminder, and updates Wednesday via email as well.
Ever Onward,
Victor.

Hi
Times ago I was participating in a game in which player positions were adjusted.
I remember we were using a tool in which it was mandatory to send every ship to the homeworld on the 1st move.
Is it still the case with tools that are used here? Or shall we all go to full scout starting from Y2400?
Regards

In answer to both of your questions, there isn't a setting that gives you 440 planets https://wiki.starsautohost.org/wiki/Density so the universe will have 512.
Part of why my setups take so long is that I'm continually trying to make the starting positions more equal across the board. According to my players, I'm not perfect yet, but getting there.
The player positions are moved, then the planets are scouted and moved so that what you can expect within 81 and 162 light years corresponds fairly closely to your hab range according to http://craebild.dk/hab_range_tool/habcalc.html.
For instance, if your hab is 0.55g - 8g, -200ºC, 80ºC, 31mR - 69mR the calculator shows about a 1 in 5 for you. Expect 1 green within 81ly and 4-5 within 21ly. I'm not going to adjust for yellows.
As for the scouts, they will all appear at your HW on the first turn.
