HW min conc of 30% quite likely |

I have just been exploring starting min concs for homeworlds and something strange is happening.
Plotting values from over 1000 HWs gives a fairly typical "bell shaped" distribution, from 37% up to 118%, with the most common values around the 70% to 80% mark.
However, out of the 3702 values (1234 planets * 3), 1118 had the value 30 (ie. minimum for a HW). That's almost a third of them!
Does anyone know why this is happening ?

There are no values under 37%, apart from the huge stack of 30s.
In over 3000 values, there is nothing between 31% and 36% - is it likely that there a third of the values are under 30% ?

That seems odd!
IIRC my current game had one of it's original values as 32, so I can't see how your results could be so skewed.
I didn't allocate any leftover points to increase the mineral concentrations, but perhaps you are doing this???
Sorry that's all I can come up with.

mazda is correct. In stars, go start new game, hit advanced button, then hit help on screen where AccBBS is listed, and pick help on AccBBS
According to help file, mineral concentrations are increased by 20%, plus "planets with poor mineral concentrations are improved a few % points".

Quote: | All of the collected datasets generally followed the previously described profile of a flat 1% chance of a concentration occurring for values between 1 and 30, then a 'pyramid' shaped profile between 31 and 119 with the end points being (virtually) 0% chance and the peak at a concentration of 75 being a little over 1.5% chance.
|
This applies to all planets.
Hence the 30% chance of a HW conc being 30.
If it is less than 30 it is rounded up to 30 (don't know why they make it up to 30 though, no need really as it is a HW)
|
That explains it. Thanks for finding that rgcs reference - I looked but couldn't find anything.

Before.
Spending 40 points on min concs gets you 10, 10 and 30.
Not 12, 12 and 36.
