craig-stars - Web based Stars! clone

Hi all,

Most of the Stars! action is on the discord these days, but in case folks still come by here every now and then, I thought I should make a post about my Stars! clone, craig-stars!

It's web based so you can play it on your computer, iPad, phone (barely), or any device with a modern browser. It uses discord for logging in because I don't really want to manage credentials or emails or anything else auth related.

It's pretty much feature complete. I have a few server side tasks remaining like mystery traders and some random events, and the client could always use more refinement, but it's fun! It's also open source, so if you are familiar with typescript/svelte or golang, you are welcome to contribute. Smile

Thanks! I'm glad you're enjoying it. If you have any feedback or requests, let me know. I'm pretty busy with other things until April, but I plan on picking it up again after that to finish off some of the remaining tasks and to add improvements to the UI. It's also open source if you want to contribute! Smile

I noticed from the server logs that your turn latest generation was failing. I had a log statement that was referencing the planet a battle was occurring over, but there was no planet. Sorry!

I fixed it and deployed a new version. Please try generating your turn again. And thanks for playing!

Thanks for your support. This is a test game to start a real game with friends. However, that still seems too unsafe to me. I can see how much time has already gone into making it happen. It's really fun to play with. A dream could come true Smile

As for playing with friends, it definitely should come with the caveat that it's a game in development. I have automated tests that run test games with the AI so I can hopefully cash any turn generation crashes before they happen, but my AI isn't smart enough to utilize every feature of the game (yet). There are definitely going to still be bugs. Smile
