Hello all. I'm a Stars player from back in the 90's early 00's.

Since that time, I've been trying to find a good 4x game. I came close with the Space Empires series, but nothing else even came close to Stars.

The game has been on my mind the last few months. I found my old disk, followed the instructions for playing on Windows 7, and VirtualBox. And last night...bam! I'm playing Stars again. I'm having to relearn how to do some of the stuff and remembering the strategies.

But, I just wanted to say hello. Hopefully I'll jump into a game...if any are even still being played.

Thanks,

Troy

Which you can find at Stars!-Wiki. Embedded there you can also find the old (still good) articles of the Stars! FAQ Collection and Stars-R-Us Collection and many more.

I was looking at various options, but I dislike the complexity of 3D movement which takes away the fun of actually managing the empire and makes you struggle to moving things around in 3d.. perhaps a hangover from my older PC days where I didn't have a good graphics card Razz.

I plan on retrying the Homeworld series - http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/homeworld & http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/homeworld-cataclysm and
Alpha Centauri - http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/sid-meiers-alpha-centauri

I played GC2.. but didn't much care for it that much. Good fun, but not something I would play regularly.
Galactic Civilizations II - http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/galactic-civilizations-ii- twilight-of-the-arnor

Stardrive looks slightly interesting too - http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/stardrive as does
Star Control 3 - http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/star-control-3

A good to-do list written down for myself.. thank Smile

Hi!

For a good 4x experience I'd also recommend the Sword of the Stars from Kerberos. Basic gameplay is quite like MoO1 or (to lesser extent) Stars!, combat is like in Homeworld and in real time, but races differ much much more than in any game I've played.

BTW start playing with basic SotS1, then slowly add the three extensions, one by one. And if you get bored after some months of gaming, you can get mods (lots of them existent, or mod it for yourself), and there's also SotS2. Wink

BR, Iztok
