Having spent about an hour scouring the forum but not finding an a thread on this topic, I think this is worth posting.

I'm not writing about the bug where (with a new SB design) you edit it to add components when it's 99% built in a queue somewhere.

Rather, this is regarding the quirk in Stars! where the build queue is isolated from what's actually happening in the game:
Player X owns planet Y and has a starbase in orbit packed with jihad missiles.
2450 Player X queues an upgrade to the starbase (upgrading the computers). Upgrade costs 100Kt Germanium, but there's only 90Kt available on planet Y this turn, so it will take 2 years to complete the upgrade.
2451 Player Z attacks planet Y, destroying the starbase.

At this point, player X still has a 90% complete starbase in his build queue which he only paid 90 Germanium for. In order to complete it, he must pay 10% of the full cost of this starbase (which planet Z can only just do in 1 turn).

This means that planet Z has presented 2 starbases to player Z in the space of 2 years, where it wouldn't normally be able to do so.

This happens during normal play, but can also be engineered.

- Is there another thread that has dealt with this issue?
- If not, is that because this is just generally accepted as ok in all situations (engineered and not)
- If not, lets hash this out and get some discussion going on the matter with the input of some of our forum-ancients Wink

Ideally I reckon that when the original base is destroyed, the upgrade's completion percentage should be reduced. And that the new percentage should equal (Mins/Res spent on upgrade so far) ÷ (cost of upgraded base built from scratch).

However, the ratios of Ir/Bo/Ge/Re would be all different between the upgrade and the whole base, so that doesn't work easily either.

Anyway, how have people handled this issue in other games?
