Nor me. I sent my race file in 24 hours ago. If I'd known someone was going to be so slow, I would have designed and tested more... I rushed to get it in quick.

Well, you can always run another couple quick testbeds and beg Micha to accept a tweaked race, if necessary.

Don't nag. I for one am grateful to Micha and Ron for their efforts - but I would like to get started soon
|
I'll sent you all the first turn. So you can stare on that for a week till Ron gets the game up. (You'll get it in an hour or so, it's time to put the kids to bed.)
Haven't sent the files to Ron yet, my internet connection was messed up, made me even miss a Stars! turn!

When the game page is up, I'll set up a daily generation shedule. I think 4:30 GMT will be convenient for most of us, but if it's highly inconvenient for somebody, we can shift it a bit.

The concentrations and starting minerals are very bad and will certainly not suit some of us. My view is, tough luck, that's the way the cookie crumbles.
If, however, a lot of you would prefer a different start and the rest would go along with that, I'd rather try with a new universe than have a lot of unhappy players.
If you want to express an opinion one way or the other, write to Micha. I don't think an open discussion is all that suitable, as it could give clues about your race designs.
If Ron puts up our game page before this gets resolved, we will go with what we have. I know that some of you think we've waited too long already before starting.

I was one (perhaps the only one) who raised it with Micha.
Had I known I'd have probably designed my race a bit differently, but so long as it's the same for everyone I'm happy to proceed with the current game.

I don't mind to put it in the open. Yes, if we know what it will be we can design the race for it. I could probably have done better. However, I allowed for that unknown and think it is part of the game. I'll go with what we have.
Cheers, Rolf.

I overlooked one thing: this is not an Acc BBS game, so the mineral concentrations aren't boosted ... Guess it will always be pretty bad, I'm not sure how it works (how bad) without ... can't remember a single game that I played that did *not* have Acc BBS. <g>

No luck involved at all. Race designs should allow for this kind of hardship. I testbedded for just this setup and came out reasonably well.
Any -f CA will likely have a field day, though.

If my half dozen testbeds are any indicative, starting minerals will have little importance here. Starting minconcs, OTOH, are relevant, so I reckon nobody will beat his/her best score with the current setup.
But any half-decent race design should be able to cope. Or will likely be pushed over by those who can.

Well, I guess as long, as everybody has the same problems, there's no reason to redo it, is there?
How the individual races get along with such things is another question, but as it's not like anybody knew the setup while creating his race, it's about luck if a certain race is in favor or not, afte all.
I'd like to compare it with evolution. A race either can cope with a problem or it was too weak and will eventually disappear.
As it doesn't favor any player on purpose, I'd just deal with things as they are.

I would like the game to proceed with the universe created. You know, that is why they call it the UNIverse?
I understand noone told me where to send my first move, so I won't send one in yet at all, until one does. Or did I miss anything?

The game page is NOT set up yet. You'll receive a mail from Ron when that's done, in that mail you'll find the link to that page and your up/download PW.
Do NOT send me your .x files.

Do you see why I didn't want an open discussion? Those with the robust view, that we take what we get, go public, those who feel more vulnerable keep quiet. OK, I publicly stated the robust view, but I'm the host - ultimately I decide, so I tell you how the wind is blowing.
As for submitting the first turn, yes, we're waiting for Ron to give us a game page. Sorry if that wasn't clear. I could ask Micha to send me all the starting files and you to send me x files and I'll generate turns until Autohost is ready. But if we go that way, Micha almost need never have been involved: those who don't know me could suspect that I might take advantage of being the one with all the starting files - there are ways I could cheat.
