It has been about five years since I last worked on Stars! Nova
Masters complete - check
Kids all grown up - check
Have wife's permission to make her a Stars! widow again - check
I cracked the ice off the Stars! Nova source forge project about a week ago and have been actively working on that, restoring the wiki, and catching up on reading HWF. Nova is the most advanced Stars! clone, however it is still not a playable game, let alone implementing all of the Stars! features. Also the latest release version is a long way behind the latest code base (2011).
The goal for now is to get Nova! in shape for release of version 0.5. That will be a 'playable game' - in the sense that you can start a game, build mines/factories, build some ships, scout, colonize habitable planets, have battles, bomb enemy systems, invade enemy systems and win the game!
I want to get that release out no later than the end of May. Did I mention I am moving house and starting a new job in May?
Currently I am planning on doing the coding myself, but many hands make light work. If you are a programmer who wants to help, start here.
If you are not a programmer but still want to help, at the moment the best thing you can do is provide encouragement and keep me to my deadlines. Once 0.5 is released I will be asking for testers to help track down bugs and submit game files.
The Nova! sourceforge page is here.
