I've been looking at games started recently, and there hasn't been any Tiny-Sparse games since November, and that was on "The List". I'd really like to try a tiny-sparse game, because I'd never done one except in AI universes (some competition!). And I'd be willing to host it as well, if noone wants to take up the reins!

I'm thinking it should be for novice-intermediate, ie. people who haven't played in more than one tiny-sparse game before.

How have people found tiny-sparse? It requires radically different race design, that much is for granted. But does it make for exciting games? Maybe I would make it a max. 2 player win. What do people think the best settings for a tiny-sparse would be? I'm thinking max minerals to even the playing field.

I'd be interested, since I've never even tried playing a game with those settings, not even vs the AI. How many races would you have in a game like that?

Yep, as many as you can pack in. In a tiny-sparse, there's 24 planets, and with 16 homeworlds, there's only 8 planets to play around in!

Naturally the 1WW-JoaT is regarded as the best, just the sheer size of the population that can be crammed on the HW means it ramps up the fastest, but for those blitz starts WM does quite well. 'Course, if you're SD, you can dirty up the universe a bit! And there's nothing ruder than a CA coming along and moving all your hab out of that tiny 1WW range you set. SS, if they can live long enough to get the cloaked shields and armor, could sneak their way right into the lion's den, so to speak!

The only race that's generally perceived as unfair in a tiny-sparse is a 1WW-PP. I would tend to think that a WM or a JOAT would be very hard to beat, but people seem to think throwing rocks at HWs that are only 150ly from each other is unbalancing. I don't really think it is - a good diplomat can unbalance the whole field! Do people think PP is something that shouldn't be let in?

Yup, sure done my newsgroup research.. Smile

Well, that means his OAs need to survive that means he killed your battle fleet which means you already lost even without the deterraforming of your HW ...

With enough time, quite well, but early on, the 25% additional cost on weapons still makes a big difference, in particular against WM, IMHO. If you see an IS OWW in this universe, force him to fight early or you are in trouble Twisted Evil

I was under the impression that you wanted to start up one of these games. Was that the wrong impression to get? Confused

Other thoughts:

The second planet of PP/IT would be nice to have - at least you know theres a good 2nd planet out there...even if you can't keep it.

What happens if more than 8(of 16) people choose IT/PP? extra planets?
