I would also like to make a slight revision of schedule.

Schedule
--Will extend deadlines on request as needed for holidays/travel/other IRL nuisances.

To
--Will extend deadlines for holidays each player will be give two holds up to 72 hours in length. One more will be given after 2450. Only unanimous agreement can extend the number of player holds.

...

I think you have to be careful putting a hard limit on number of holds per player per game.

On the one hand, all the players want all of the other players to abide by the schedule that everyone agreed to when they signed up for the game.

On the other hand, stuff just happens IRL, and missing a turn often has catastrophic results for a player. Denying a hold request (from a player that has already used his allotment) can be tantamount to a death penalty, and the IRL circumstances could well be entirely out of the player's control. That would be frustrating not just for the player thus denied, but also for his opponents in the game, who would prefer the full challenge of facing that player's unabridged strategical mettle, even if it means waiting a little longer from time to time because the guy has a very old cat that sometimes needs urgent medial care. Or myriad other IRL exigencies.

On yet another hand, there are only so many stars players available--we kind of have to accept the pace of play that the available players set. Personally, I'd love it if everyone who signed up for a 50-hour per turn game did everything in their power to abide by that schedule, because that's what I do. If IRL gets a little busier than usual for a stretch, I'll stay up late and short myself on sleep to meet the deadline, because I'm always rabid to get to the next turn. But, if given the option between playing with the 3 or 4 players who are as crazy as I am, or playing with 7-8 players who request extensions often enough that the game really averages 2-3 turns per week--well, I'd rather play with the 7-8 players.

All of that said, I'm not a player in this game. I'm merely offering advice. Host and players, you are free to do with it what you will.

What we need's a few good taters.

Should Inquisitor80 play[ 5 votes ]
1. Yes 4 / 80%
2. No 1 / 20%

It has been quite some time already - shall we go ahead and start? Certainly we can wait until Inquisitor makes a final decision on whether he plays or not.

i am willing to play. however my playstyle i sub-par
i have had some very nice PMs offering help
while i am willing to learn and take advice i also don't want to hold up the game any further.

so here is a poll for all the people currently playing

you guys made the grade with the 10k@2450 or better
i did not
this isn't a pity plea or anything. call it like you want it.
do you want to let somebody who may fail miserably into YOUR game to have another player.
or do you want each player to have preformed at least to the 10k@2450 level?

There are more important things than 'beating' a solitaire play. I've never played online multiplayer, so I'm sure I'm at quite a disadvantage there, even in a no-comms. The resource requirement just measures one of the many variables that make up competence.

The most important part of playing Stars is having fun doing it, I've been playing here on Autohost for a few years and I've won 1(as in one) game, and that was a team game.

I like to play the game, I'm not any good at it as I don't put in all the time that I think I should as I do have a very full RL.

I think you should play the game, it's the only way to learn and maybe I won't be the first one out Cool

I know where your coming from. Frequent long delays can also impact player performance and push the game beyond expected completion. I think three holds per player is reasonable enough. If someone has a good enough reason then most likely all players will be ok with it.

Anyone have objection to Inquisitor80 playing "unqualified"?

Does anybody else want to get in on the game? At least one more open slot.

Final call

4 votes so far. All say I should play. I am kind of amazed.

I will put another round of effort in and have a race submitted in 2 days
Pretty sure the race is already done(ish) but I need to revisit

Thank you all

All players please send me an email to my SAH user name @Comcast.net

This will be used to confirm participation and to verify communication link with the host. Skoormit forwarded race files to me. Thanks Skoormit for doing player qualification. If you wish to send a tweaked race file then feel free. Just please keep it AR.

If anyone has anything to discuss before the game then please feel free. After game starts then all communication goes through the host. Email addresses will not be shared.

Will give an update in a couple of days.

Status update

sah.humans sent PM asking for confirmation
iztok confirmed race received
better confirmed race received
mrvan sent PM asking for confirmation
little eddie confirmed race received
theval sent PM waiting for confirmation
Inquisitor80 confirmed race received trying 10K test
Asmodai expected to complete race and 10K test my Monday

I don't have personal emails. If any one does then your welcome to ask players to check the boards. Please do not discuss the current game outside of the forum.

If for some reason we get less then 6 players then I would recommend that we decrease the universe size. It has been almost 4 months since thread has been started.

My email is wouter@vanatteveldt.com (I don't mind spam Wink), I don't check PM's often.

I can confirm, but I will be AFK from 10-12 october and after ~10 december until Christmas, so the game needs to be finished by then or I will need to take a very long break. If that is no problem, I am game.

Good chance game will still be going into next year. October 10-12 is close enough not to be an issue. I am going to call for player vote on the second. Majority Rules. As long as there are less then three objections then lets plan on the break. If you object to the hold please let me know by Wednesday.

Plan is to send the files to Xapbob on Wednesday night. Then he will need some time to do universe set up before sending files to Ron for SAH setup. Good news is that Xapbob plans on moving HW's if need be to insure relatively equal start for all players. Otherwise you would end up with a couple players becoming a baloney sandwich.

Looks like finally going to start!

Thanks to everyone who helped make it happen - skoormit, dlrichert and xapbob especially since they are a significant help and not playing!

Two more weeks without any movement and more than 4 months since the game was announced....

Sorry guys, I'm withdrawing from this game, I just don't think it's going to work out. Good luck to all involved!

Apologies
I've had issues with the forum.

The game is generated, I'm just remapping.

I can exclude you and start again if you really want - but since I'm *only* doing the genning/mapping that would be a bit harsh on the eventual host.

I know the frustration you feel. Unfortunately there is not a huge pool of players. Sometimes it takes more time than you expect. The game setup is in the home stretch. When Xapabob volunteered many months ago to do universe gen he might have had a less busy schedule.
It's been only about eleven days. He already genned the special universe. Will you reconsider?

We still would have seven players. I guess give it a day or two. If no change then please regen. Sorry for the hassles.
