A little suggestion...

I'd like to see everyone who creates a poll to include an option "Just show me the results" for those of us who shouldn't participate, but are interested in the results. This mostly applies to game specific polls.

Often, mostly in new game threads or game forum threads, I encounter a poll that is really just for the players, and would like to see the results. I have two choices, 1) wait for the poll to expire, or 2) vote and influnce the result. I'm impatient but I don't want to skew the result so please give us observers an option Smile

Thanx Smile

Right next to the button "Vote" there is a button "View Results". Wink

Yeah I know...there was some problem with that, which escapes me right now, and I don't have a handy poll to refresh my memory(and can't be bothered creating one just to see)

Does the View Results button has a problem here?[ 12 votes ]
1. Yes ... 7 / 58%
2. No ... 5 / 42%

Here is a test ...

Hm ... maybe there is no "View Result" button until there is at least one vote?

Well, it would not make much sense to have that button with no votes in? Would it? Grin

OK - I made a vote and immediately can see the vote. There is no 'view results' button though.

Okay, I entered the forum without logging in and I saw one yes vote on the poll, but no vote or view buttons. Then I logged in and there were no votes, but a vote and view button. Then I selected view and now there is one yes vote, but no vote or view buttons. It seems once you view you can't vote?

So what to do now? You call your doctor and ask him what's wrong with your medication. Very Happy

That should be right, once you voted you can't vote a second time and always see the results. So no need for a "View Result" button.

That is the correct behaviour, people not logged in can't vote.

Behind the title of the poll you should have seen [ 1 vote(s) ] (it did show up like that for me), no yes or no votes should be visible, and you'd see indeed 2 buttons.

Indeed, once you hit "View Results" you can't vote anymore, unless you log out and back in again.

So far nothing wrong ...

Edit: Wall Bash I'm slow ... must be the holidays! You of course meant something like a "blank vote" that would just trigger the result view ...

Conclusion - it's sort of working liking it's supposed to but not all the time. I logged in with another login and checked it out. On the first login I could see the View Results button but, when I clicked it nothing changed. If I went out of the topic and came back in though, then the results were there and the button wasn't.

On another login I clicked the button and it worked like it should - the page re-loaded and I could see the results. However, it must be noted that now the page existed in cache in the PC.

I used the veiw result button before voting and could see the results the backed up and voted. Veiw result button then disappears as everything reloads with my vote included.

I can't do that either. Do I need a 3d-graphics card to do that?

I saw immediately "View results" button and the header of vote said theres 7 votes.
I pressed "View results" but nothing happened. Rolling Eyes
Then i did choose "yes" and pressed that "View results" again.
It did show me results of 8 votes?! Surprised
I am unsure but seems that it is better to have "i just want to view the results" vote because that "View results" button seems buggy. Nod

Had that happening as well, with 2 votes in I picked yes and chose "View Results", my vote was added ... afterwards I still had the option to vote ... again ...

hmm..I also click the view results and had nothing happen, and have since voted :/...but I have a theory that it was because the page was cached...so will the next person who tries please click the view results and the refresh the page(press F5 in IE..dunno about others)...if I'm right the results should then display instead of the voting thing...otoh...you may lose you ability to vote.

on a somewhat related note....is there a problem/bug/setting to do with polls in the private game forums?

I tried creating one last night (3 times) and every time I did, the poll appeared and just showed me the results (0-0) as if the poll had closed...
I was setting it to close after 1 day and tried various numbers of allowed votes. It was a simple yes/no poll. lacking the time, I gave up and asked for replies.

I have checked this again from another computer where the result was not in cache. I did get the results to show by pressing the View Results so I do not believe that there is all that much of a problem.

Private forums ... rings a bell ... I'll try to find something about it ... though could be from a chat with Ron and not from a post on the forum ... IIRC overworked had some problems with that years ago ...

Polls in private forums, found something! (may 2003, my memory is still working!) Check this post from Ron ...

Though it doesn't solve much when I read the replies ...
And I'm currently no mod of a private forum so I can't test ...
