Are you Game? (Read Below for details)[ 16 votes ]
1. YOU BET! 4 / 25%
2. Sure but not right now 5 / 31%
3. Yeah if you change something 1 / 6%
4. Na.. Too busy 5 / 31%
5. No, I don't like KOTH at all 1 / 6%

Once again I gauge the interest of this community with one of my wonderful surveys!

Today's Survey.. I'm planning on setting up a "Super KOTH" game. (if you wanna know what KOTH is refer to thread title.)

-What's so super about this? How is this idea different than standard KOTH?

-First off, Standard KOTH setup: Host publicly says planets X, Y, Z, whatever, are the "hills" winner holes X many at year Y.

That's easy enough.

-NOW SUPER KOTH! Setup:
1) I collect Players and Gen map
2) I pick 5 planets and "Genetically Enhance" them. (So to speak.)
3) I DON'T TELL the players their EXACT locations, (They are after all SO unusual, you'll know one when you find it.)
4) I figure out some cleaver little clues to help you find them, like defining general areas.
5) I accept the first round of X files locally and gen to get it in sync and make sure things are running smoothly.
6) I get it up on Autohost and we play.

-I'd also planned on playing as a neutral trade race, (for an added bit of interest, I thought it could be fun if I'm the only IT player and allied to all.)

+WIN conditions: he who's team owns all the super worlds for... 5 years, perhaps more if public demand, demands it. (I'll let you form your own teams.. Preferably in game, [more intersting].)

-NO This isn't a game announcement, this is a concept viablity test. As in, is it WORTH announcing?

-Feed Back is desired.. OH and here's a snap shot of one of the "Super Planets" I engineered.

Someone suggested I take the 5 hills and instead make the HILLS consist of 3 planets (clumped universe? Transform a whole cluster? Or something like that.)
And restrict the winner(s) to 1 alliance of 2 players, maybe 3?

Anyone like this idea? Or like to propose an alternate?

(My next planned research goal is to figure out how to create artificial HomeWorlds. I'm close but I haven't cracked it just yet.) If I add what I have to making artificial HW's I could easily call them "Ancient Homeworlds" like some long dead and powerful race once lived there. That would be cool!

Comments, suggestions, what have you are always welcome.

I've had limited sucess with hex/memory editing the host file against AI players. It's tough to do, as I do not have the time and patience to explore every sector of memory.

I prefer to use autohost in general to prevent such possible abuses as well.

I have run a few games similar to it, and a few players here have probably played in one or more of them.

Connect 4, King of the Center, Center Wars to name a few.

If anyone has turn files and xy files for C4 and CW, please email them to me. I'd like to make a map or two from them.

ps I'm not saying enhanced planets can't be done, I just consider it out of my level of patience and very unethical in a human played game. Too much room for abuse...

Edit every sector? Na.. Heck I started out just by playing "Random edit" (systematic isn't always the best way to go.) I've got a game up now with enhanced planets, some have predeveloped stuff.. Like 3000 mines and factories. Others have planets of ore. (By planets of ore I mean, tens of thousands or just millions. It's still a bit random for me, and I had to scrap the ultra hab idea since a flaw was pointed out in that a CA kicked off woudl reduce the planet to an unusuable state...)

So far things are going well, players are happily hunting for the hills, and since I know where they are I of course can't play as a combatant... If anyone would like to see a simple edit on a file, I've got a game I made, copied edited one and left the other alone. I only tweaked 2 planets. I'd be happy even to take a file you provide and tweak it for your amusiment.

And HST editing for just the planets isn't any more unethical if done right than making maps for any other game. Is it unethical to create a new map for say... Starcraft? Or Battle Field 1942, or DOOM? Or to make use map editing to make a new scenario? And if you tell people your doing this and exactly what your doing? I don't think there's a problem if they know what they're getting into and agree to the terms.

However all things being equal, if your playing compeditively and you boost your race so you can kick more butt (non AI game). That's not right, unless it's supposed to be that way (game premise, take down the big guy... like 14 to 1 that could be kinda nift...)or you also boost everyone else as well. As long as you don't play cloak and dagger with it (change things to benifit and tell no one...) I don't see the harm.

I think my way of handeling such issues in the actual SKOTH game is so far quite effective and mutually benifital to everyone in the game. I sell tech that's more advanced, but my prices do require them to give up something or exchange something to earn it. The exact details are developing but, so far I think I've got it.

Oh and Xdude.. I didn't say YOU had to... heheh Cause I already can, and am in some ways extremely proficient in doing so. Smile But yes in editing anything the possibily of abuse is always present, as long as it's made clear in advance, there's no harm. Either people come knowing it's going to occure or they say "no thanks", just like all those bugs people are always banning (chaff, N/S mines, fleet split, etc...), same thing in a way...
