Reversing the concept of RWIAB...

Races:
+f races only - defined as factory settings MUST be 15/x/25
AR races banned
CA races banned (because of orbital adjuster)
All the other PRTs are fine, but I'd *prefer* not to see any HE races...

Galaxy:
Accelerated BBS Play: Enabled
No Random Events: Enabled
Size: Medium
Density: Sparse
Players: Farther

Rules:
No cheats/exploits are permitted
Chaff is allowed
'Reasonable' fleet splitting is permitted, 'abuse' of fleet splitting is banned.
-- Use of fleet splitting to try to get attacking fleets past defending fleets is abuse.
---- An ATTACKING fleet may only be split in order to attack multiple targets.
---- A fleet may be split as many times as you like IF the ENTIRE fleet is RETREATING.

Victory:
Rank 1 after 2525
PPS after 2510

Generations:
M-F at 3AM GMT
I will generate 3 turns at a time for the first two weeks.
If Ron has space, the game will be hosted on autohost. Otherwise I will host the game using 2.7J RC4.

-----

I'm ideally looking for 6-8 players. If we have more or less players I will adjust the galaxy settings to suit.
I can see the nightmare scenarios of playing in a game I am hosting, so I will ONLY be hosting and NOT playing

want a suggestion? LOWER THE FAC SETTINGS Mad2 there is NO WAY in heck that 15/X/25 can be a viable race, try something like 10/X/10, and also, get a nuetral third party to verify races.

Why can't the 15/X/25 be a viable race???

A 10/X/10???? Shocked Puke2

Looks like a great game for those HP fans.

Easy, Mr Shouty, you'll make me cry Crying or Very Sad Crying

The idea is that ALL the empires are 15/X/25 - reverse of -F races. If they are *all* 15/x/25, then they are all viable by definition... Rolling Eyes I might be tempted to lower the fac settings to 15/x/15, or 10/x/25, but lower destroys the concept. This isn't just a 'no -f', it's a +f... Twisted Evil

My reasoning for (possibly) banning 3 of the PRTs:

AR - No factories.

CA - With so much emphasis on heavy investment on planets, I'm worried the orbital adjuster provides a much too easy way to capture a planet with factories intact.

HE - I'm not sure that I want ALL the races to be 4% tri-immune...

::reminds himself not to come onto the board at midnight:: I completely forgot about HP races, if I wasnt so darn busy I might play just to get the feeling of an HP race.

I'm in, but I won't send a race until the game parameters are fixed. Come on, give us a deadline! Whip

Interesting how most people seem to be afraid of playing against CA. Oh well, I'll just have to win using something else then Smug

My suggestion to keep the concept and make it vaguely sane to make races is to require 13+/x/17+.

That's more than an HG, actually low for an HP, and about the QS range. It'd be hard to design for much more than that, but it certainly is enough to have a high planetary investment.

that sounds sane... I'll have a little play with the race wizard to see what that does to the spread of races, but I think you are definately on to something - this way there will still be a (small) spread of race types - a 13/x/17 would then be HG in this game. Laughing

I wouldn't suggest banning HE. A 4% HE would be lucky to be in the runnings at 2500, it is a fairly slow race at ramping up. And econ is going to be the main factor. I've played one before and I was sorely lacking. 5% or 6% are much better off and that puts them in a similar ballpark as everyone else.

The No G box hurts at first. I've taken this race to 80k with minimal MM in a small packed. Easily could have doubled it with a few hours of hard core MM.

+F races are viable, but up against QS/HG, they just can't compete early on.

That sounds pretty good... There won't be any need to worry so much about being terrorised by HG/-f style empires in this game Very Happy

Of course I've already said that CA will probably be banned in this game (because the Fire bounce orbital adjuster Fire bounce will make it far too easy to capture planets with all those factories intact Twisted Evil )

I expect it should be possible to achieve similar results using TT and other PRTs, although all that intensive terraforming of red planets is gonna slow down your ramp-up time significantly. Sad

Factory Settings[ 18 votes ]
1. 15/x/25 factories 15 / 83%
2. 13+/x/17+ factories 3 / 17%

OK, I wanna know what people think about the factory settings. Sherlock

I like the idea of a fixed 15/x/25 factory settings game, as I think it changes the play style quite significantly. However it might lead to players with hab bands so narrow that there will be very little overlap between players, or the game might just get far too sluggish.

13/x/17 will still be a factory heavy game, but will allow for a little more flexibility in game strategy.

Personally I'm still voting for 15/x/25, but if enough people would prefer 13/x/17 we will play that instead. Cool

How about only specifying a MINIMUM factory setting to qualify as an HP race and allowing everyone to determine their own factory settings upward of that? IOW, they can adjust their factory ratings higher if they wish, but not lower.

Would that ruin the concept?

Sorry, I don't think I made my poll clear enough. Embarassed I did actually mean setting 13/x/17 as MINIMUM settings, as per the previous posts discussing the idea of reducing the factory minimum settings.

Would anybody else have voted differently if they'd known 13/x/17 was a minimum setting, not a fixed setting? I won't reset the poll, just PM me if you voted wrong so I know. Rolling Eyes

So far it *looks* like we've got 7-1 voting for 15/x/25, so unless there's a big swing we'll play 15/x/25, and with 8 votes cast it looks like there's enough interest to have a good number of players too! Very Happy I'll close the poll and lock down all the settings in a couple of days so you can all submit. Cool

Also, what do people think about the victory condition? I might set it back to 2525 instead of 2500, because our economies are probably all gonna have pretty slow ramp up times.

Victory Condition is fine, at either 100 or 125 years. Just be sure to move the date for PPS as well. Thumbsup 2

Also please confirm which races are banned, and what the universe settings will be. Cool

An email address for this independent 3rd party would appreciated, so that we may send in some races! Multi bounce

Well... I did vote for 15x25 factory settings, but I would have voted the other way if I'd known that was only a minimum setting and not a required standard.

And either way I was thinking I'd like to join this game, but I just learned that the other game I'm committed to (which has been stalled for a while and was looking fairly doomed) is going to proceed after all. I'm playing an SD and that game is going to monopolize my time.

Discount my vote; although I'd like to play in this one, I'm going to have to pass to honor my previous commitment. Sad

I have updated all the settings. Please check through the first post in this thread Rolling Eyes *carefully* Rolling Eyes for the finalised settings.

I still only have 2 races submitted for this one... Embarassed

C'mon guys, we just need 4 more to make the game interesting. I'm don't wanna let this one die, I find the concept of an all HP game too intriging to let it slip.

I find the concept interesting, but just can't clear the proper amount of playing time right now.

Did you advertise the game on "The List"? That will get it mailed to some people. If you advertise it on rec.games.computer.stars then it will get picked up automatically.
