The authors of this board's software are strongly against the deletion of any messages. That is why there is no provision for users to delete their own messages.

Users can edit their own messages for some time after they are posted.

If you feel there is a valid need to delete a message you posted, use the 'Report post to a moderator' link at the bottom of your message and give the reason you feel it should be deleted.

IMO valid reasons for wanting your own message to be deleted would include:

  • Accidental duplicate post.
  • Angry flame or name-calling post that hasn't already been caught by a moderator and is past the timelimit for you to edit yourself.

(There may be other reasons, but I can't think of them at the moment.)

Silly question:

Does editing a post cause a message to be highlighted as unread?

The edit button has disappeared on my posts mere minutes after posting them - I don't recall the window being this short before. I request that the window be increased to at least an hour or a day.

I think that change was made after your post?

However, there is now a post flood trigger which is quite annoying. Can't it be something lower? 10-15 secs?

Well, two hours ago I was trying to edit my post and accidentally clicked Quote instead of Edit, and posted the double before realising my mistake. I blanked the second post, and it's still available for me to edit, but my first post isn't. I guess it was indeed changed after my post, but isn't retroactive? I dunno. Confused Mad Surprised

I suspect there is a "don't edit after response" feature going on as well...

This.

You can't edit your post after someone has replied to it.

Possibly also true for any reply on the thread subsequent to your post.

What we need's a few good taters.
