Welcome everyone to "Partners in Time".

Just as a reminder to everyone about the game settings here is how it is all set up:

Quote:

Players with fewer than ten multi-player games worth of experience under their intergalactic belts.

Title: Partners in Time
Starting Positions: Distant
Density: Dense
Beginner (Maximum Minerals): No
Slower Tech Advances: Off
Accelerated BBS Play: Yes
No Random Event: Not selected
Public Player Scores: No
Galaxy Clumping: Yes
Universe Size: large
Stars Version: 2.7jRC3 (or 2.6jRC3)

Players will be randomly paired up at the start of the game once the race files have been received (be expecting the e-mails telling you who your partner is, this weekend before the game starts). These teams may not ally with other teams during the course of the game. Only one team can control the Universe at the end of the game.

Players can only have one other player set to "Friendly" during the game, and that is the player that they are initially paired up with at the start of the game.

The winning conditions have been set to unwinnable, and the winning team will be decided by the active players (not before year 2480) or by the extinction of all other races.

For the first fourteen years the game will generate twice a day (01:00 and 13:00 GMT) Monday through Friday (can generate early if all players have submitted). Starting with year 2415 the game generation will be reduced to only generate once a day (13:00 GMT) Monday through Friday. Later in the game (2460+) if the majority of players want the turn generation reduced again, it shall be so.

Hopefully everyone followed the rules and there are no claim adjuster races.

No pre-game alliances other than the one specified above. No cheats allowed except for Chaff (calling this a cheat has been heavily debated in these forums). Although, Split fleet dodge is up for debate in the New Games section of this forum.

I have a quick question about the MT. Can anyone trade with him or is there one trading race in the game? Um, or is this a silly question?

The latter, defiantly the latter Laughing

Why the hell only one player would get to trade with the MT?
You ask that because ccmaster's race is called TRADERS? If so, then I'm going to change my race name to WINNERS Very Happy

But if we're already into questions, how did the split fleet thing turned out? It is allowed, right?

Well, I'm not sure about you, but my forces aren't the most disciplined in the galaxy and when they're retreating they do tend to get a little mixed up Wink

It's not something they've had to do alot you know Wink

Okay, so here are the current results of the Split Fleet Dodge survey:
Allow it: 4
Do not allow it: 1
Do not care: 1

Therefore, I think that it is most likely that the majority of players want the split fleet dodge allowed if it is defined in a reasonable manor.

So now all we have to do is come up with a definition that everyone can be happy with.

How about armed ships CANNOT fleet dodge, they must intercept opponent. Bombers, freighters, scouts, etc... can run like hell in any which way.

Why??? What's the logic in that?
When the enemy is stronger, you run to fight another day, unless it doesn't fit your race profile of course Smile

I still don't see any problem with it- when you tell your ships to leave your world and intercept the enemy, they're doing what they're told. When the enemy split up the can only chase one fleet, so they take the biggest blip on the RADAR.
Players just need to think before the act, and remember that what their captains see is just big and small blips on the RADAR, so they always chase the largest blip.

I disagree, a true commander would take the most menacing blip on the RADAR, the one that continues on to the world or towards the freighters in the commanders fleet. How would it look at his court martial:
Prosecutor: Can you explain why you let that fleet of bombers wipe out the planet while you chased after the enemy's freighters.
Commander: Well, gee, it was the biggest blip on the RADAR when the enemy fleet split up. Embarassed

Therefore, I think there has to be some guidelines on using split fleet dodge.

Some suggestions:
1) If breaking a single fleet up into three or more fleets none of those fleets are to attack freighters, bombers, starbases, or planets of the enemy the next year (unless they all attack). (IMHO You should be allowed to leave your bombers and freighters in one group while your fighters and capital ships go in to remove the opponents offensive weapons)
2) If all of your fleets are running away and not intentionally doing any aggressive actions your fleets can break up into as many groups as they like

P.S. You should all have received an e-mail from Wendy letting you know who your Partner is. If not, then please send me a message and I will let her know that she needs to resend your message.

Ok, so unless I break the fleet and attack a planet the next year, I can split my fleets as much as I want, right?

Split my fleet and attacking two enemy fleets- right.
Split my fleet and running like hell, each ship for itself- right.
Split my fleet, send 3 big cargo ship away and the rest of the groups attack the enemy planet- wrong.

correct?

That is what I was thinking! Very Happy

Now, of course, if we have any lawyers playing the game they will find ways to get around any rules and come up with all sorts of special cases that make this very confusing Wink . I am hoping that if we can come up with a set of simple rules that people can understand, that we can rely on the honesty of the players involved to not be using the Split Fleet Dodge as a bug but rather a tactic. If any disputes arise because of split fleet dodge please report them to me and I will get someone respectable from the forums to assist in making a judgement (hopefully it will never get to this and we can work things out in the game).

Ron has the files and should be setting up the game today. I expect that we will be hearing from him later today that the game is ready to go. (As far as I know we may have already heard from him as the e-mail address that those messages go to I cannot check while at work Wink ).

Hey Fuz, I noticed that the game parameters are very diffrent then what you said in the first post.

The player scores are public, the player starting positions are farther and not distant, there are winning conditions and more.
What's up with that?

Hi lo again everyone;

In response to the change in game parameters I must apologize I must have been asleep when I generated the game Rolling Eyes Embarassed

If anyone feels that the two changes of Farther starting positions or Public Player scores are going to make the game less fun let me know before the first turn is generated and I will resubmit the game to Ron.

As for there being winning conditions, the fact that they are all set extremely high and you have to achieve 7 of them I figured made the game unwinnable.

Once again I apologize for my mistakes during the generation of this game. {sigh}

The back to the fleet dodge.
1) All attack
2) one group stay back (Bombers and Freighters) and rest attack
3) no splitting off freighters from attack group to pull
defenders off from main attack group?
So what about chaff mine sweeping? Is that a fleet dodge cheat?
All this is attack. Can defenders split up fleet any way they want to?
Oh yeah, game is fine by me.
