Suggestion - only if a person has registered with the forum can they participate in games?? That would limit such incidents.
I imagine there is no decent player who will condone this sort of immature behaviour.

I have recieved the following message in my Stars! game (Spring). This is not the first message of that type, and, indeed, a flame war instigated by the sender was narrowly averted due to timely Host intervention. It reads:
>From: The Germs
>To: The Tarsiens
>Hey you JEW #####! I've got the ovens heated up to BURN YOUR CHEAP ASS!!! SIEG >HEIL!!!!!!
>-----
>Adolf
The player in question is one R. Siffredi; rsiff@hotmail.com. Likely the same one involved in the mailbombing problem a while back. I will be the second player to drop the game because of him, and I would like to warn all hosts against him, so that he can ruin no more games.

Strange. IMO, yOur host should have known better than to let him play. Yes, rsiff (Rocco) was the abusive host of the mail bombing "Prisoners" game and your host is still playing in that game with Greg W on AutoHost. I notice you have a Greg W also playing in this one? If he is the same Greg W he too should have known rsiff as he had complained on RGCS about Ron having stopped the game because of rsiff's abusive actions, and got Ron to restart and host it.
I recall a cheater named Jim Jones who used similar burn-Jew language in e-mails to players about June 2001. Was "Anything Goes" on AutoHost. Guess who hosted that game. Yep. Greg V. Game was stopped because of Jim Jones. Greg V, how do you get mixed up in so many bad games?

Well, it just keeps coming...i requested our Gen to be shifted by 1.5 hour so it can coincide with my work schedule and i get this (and yes, i'm jewish)
If this guy keeps causing so many problems, how does he keep playing..we should have a list posted somewhere thats accessible that has all the names/emails/IP's of people who shouldn't be put into any more games..
From: The Germs
To: The Scrona
>From: The Scrona
>Were just curious of people
>would mind having the Gen
>time shifted over by 1.5h?
DENIED! If the ####in' Jew isn't bright enough to do his turns after the gen, then he's too stupid to do his turns before the gen. He's all but ####### dead in this game anyway. ####in' Jew can't play worth #####.

Interesting that Jim Jones is the infamous Temple killer. Gregor Vorbarra is a fictional emperor/king. Rocco Siffredi is an Italian porn star.
These three use remailers such as hotmail. And three games mentioned involved cheating, mail bombing, and very abusive racial language.
Rsiff was in two of the games and Greg V. was in all three.
What an interesting mix? Do we need pictures to become suspicious here? Rocco probably would volunteer to help in that department as he has supposedly made seven porn movies already. Will the real Rocco please stand up. And then drop dead.

I use hotmail, I'd rather not pay for any other address. So what exactly do you mean by your post Apelord, since I'm sure you don't mean to ban anyone with such and address

Hi, have had my yahoo email account for a long time. Through many changes of ISPs. I can access my account from anywhere. I am very happy with it. Humm, I don't even think I have set up an email account with the last three ISP's I have dealt with. Anyway, my point is that what you suggest Apelord will penalize me. And I have done nothing wrong.
So, I have a possible solution:
There is a movement in this forum to start a dueling club. Pick players that have a high number of games played stat. Why? Cause they are least likely to be disruptive. So, how do you get a high number? Play duel games. I have been issued a number of offers for games after I said I was willing to play.
Unfortunately, not everyone acts like an adult, that is, willing to face the consequences of their actions. I was a network admin. for a now defunct company. I scaned all incoming email for key-words. Twice, the company had to discipline or fire individuals for hate mail related incidents. Any mail that attacks or vilifies race, creed, or color is hate mail and against the law in the US. Contact the FBI. (I am in the US).

there is one other reason to not allow players to sign up with anonymous email accounts: cheating by running multiple races.
I actually had a game ruined once because of this and while I don't host much anymore, I did adopt a rule of no anonymous email addy's. If players wanted to use them later on after the game started that was fine, but you couldn't sign up for one of my games with one.

Well, how about we allow users who put the Email they are going to use on their ID, even if its with my 'anonymous' email address, I can't well do something stupid and not get flamed on this account at auto host. I think this should be the exception to no anonymous accounts since (for example) I do tie up real things into my hot-mail account. (such as my user name on oh everything, being exactly the same. ever met anyone by the name of Jeffimix? any prefix, its still me)
I do agree games can be ruined by one person signing up on many hot-mail accounts to use something like half the races in one game, and thats its something to be fixed.

1. IP address logging could be used, assuming you had to register into the whole Autohost page rather than just this forum. I would not be certain of the processes, but I would guess it could be adapted to use the Forum cookies to allow entry... this would at least make it difficult for people to register mutliple times....

If you really want some solid protection then you could build a system something like this:
1) Players register on Autohost in a seperate database. Forum ID tied to unique game ID's tied to feedback feilds.
2) Stars! creates a unique ID based on the serial# and machine ID. It may be possible to get the serial# back out of this ID. If not then just use the unique ID to create a record for given players. NOTE: Players may play on more than one machine hence Forum ID has a one to many relationship to unique ID's (unnecessary if serial# can be backed out of unique ID).
3) Feedback system similar to Ebay is implemented. I.e. if you are in a game with someone, then you can leave feedback, person can respond. You can always look up someone's feedback if they are considering joining a game with you.
4) Autohost could provide a check to hosts on unique ID's/users to see if there are multiple races being run by the same player.
Only hole is IF two people share a computer and Stars game and are playing in the same email game. While such a circumstance is plausible (dormies sharing a pc?) the number of occurences is likely to be low enough to manage on a case by case basis.
This would enable a relatively secure feedback system to be used as a reference by other players/hosts.

I can think of 2 other very good reasons to use a Hotmail or Yahoo account.
1. The above abuse is a perfect example of why you don't want to use your real ISP e-mail address. Would you want some psycho mail-bombing you? At least with a web-based e-mail account, you can delete the messages without downloading them.
2. You never know who you will meet, and what sick things they will do to your account. I played in a recent game, where a player used a game-related e-mail to get my account cancelled. It was role-playing, and I basically told him his race was going to die. Well, he sent the e-mail off to abuse and called it hate mail. Naturally, they looked at the e-mail and cancelled my account. They obviously didn't know it was a game message!
What an *ssh*le! I later named some rude ship names after him in the game, then he sent me a really nasty e-mail. We were both banned. Sigh.
