Shadallark,

My scouting suggestions for the ships I sent / am sending are below - do what you think best

head W with Peeping Tom #11 (toward Heart/Zeta and the cluster beyond to the west)
head E with Stalwart #12 (toward Triffid/Pop) and then E
head NE with Peeping Tom #13 (toward Genesis/Hydra) and then E

This year I am planning on giving you one scout near Tlon and another at Canis Major

Let me know if you think you will need any more scouts in the area

Thanks,
Ozone

The ships have been routed as you asked. I threw in a zig and a zag here and there to make sure that we do not give away any useful information by the ships paths.

If you give me the ships at Tlon and Canis Major next year I should be able to complete the scan of the north east corner of our territory fairly quickly!

I will be sending out my .p7 file in a few minutes here.

For the rest of you who gave me ships please let me know where you want me to send them... if I do not hear from you I will make my best guess as to what you want to know right away and send the ships that direction.

Please send fleet #8 toward the cluster beginning at Lamda. Also, I am transfering 2 more scouts just to the southeast of my HW. All three scouts will need to move east covering all the planets East of my HW. Ignore Atropos and Hexnut as I will scout these myself so don't worry about those two.

Just to be sure you have played JOAT before, you know you need to fly near planets and not to them in order to scout as many as possible. I'll give you a couple of tricks I've learned. Please forgive me if you know this already but it's better to say it than not say in my mind. First, JOAT scouts scan at the end of each turn so if you pass a planet but end up out of range, you will not scout it. Second trick I learned is to set my map view to 400% and use a business card to measure the scan range of a scout and mark the diameter and radius on the edge of the card. Then when I'm giving scouts move orders, I can set my view back to 400% and use the card to determine what planets will be in scanning range. Often I can tweak the movements to avoid missing a planet or two in my scans.

Thanks

Send my ship west then north along that quadrant of planets nw of Wavell (triangle of Dollar, Ball Bearing, Pinball), I guess the next one I give you can go eastwards along the Tiger's Tail chain. Third can go southeast along the Io chain. I'll give you those two ships in '02 and '03.

Hmmm...

For some reason when I updated my turn to create the Scout hull it didn't take. I was considering regenning the turn, but figured y'all would show up at my house with a noose if there were any more delays.

Scout design is in production this year.

I will send my farsight scout from Hexnut to Juniper and BFE. You do not need to include these in your scout paths. Also, Split and Skid mark will be scouted by my COH.

Thanks

Please send the scout near Winken immediately toward Crabby don't even fly by Mu on the way. I really need that scout to go at warp 9 right toward Crabby this turn and give me a read on the pop and hab of that HW. Please confirm.

Thanks

I just got back from my anniversary weekend and have not had the chance to look at the game files yet. I will do that this afternoon and confirm that I can do what you want.

Please make sure that scout #17 maintains present course and speed and scouts crabby this turn. I want to make sure that I get intel on the enemy HW next turn. Please send scout #4 to scout the zappa cluster and then turn it East.

Thanks

Done! If anyone else has specific scouting orders that they would like executed make sure that you get them posted with enough time that I can change my turn file before the game generates (then I will change my turn file and re-submit it!).

This turn send scout #17 to Mu at warp 9. The following turn I'd like you to send to scout #17 to a point SE of Crabby but just in range of your scanners at warp 9 (around 1455,1070). With a second scan, we can figure the growth rate.

Done!

Pretty good guess as to the second location I chose a spot and it turned out to be 1457,1068.

Shadallark,

I have not checked the course for all of your scouts but it would be wise to be careful with ones I sent you. I would avoid sending them deep into enemy territory since they have AD8 drives. Easy tech for them if they get shot down. Also an easy PRT giveaway.

Although it would indicate that I had that primary racial trait, not that you did. I will try to make sure that I do not send the ones from you too far into enemy territory.

Okay everyone;

next year the range of my penetrating scanners should get improved a bit as I gain a level in Electronics technology.

As there are currently only a few enemy ships visible to my scanners I figured that I would draw them on the map for everyone to see. You can take a look at this map at:
http://homepage.usask.ca/~tjl128/engr/stars/ctf.png

I will try to keep this map up to date for the next few years and also include the year the map was created in the bottom right corner.

If you have any special requests for any of the Scouts, let me know and I will do what I can.

Shadallark

As such I have decided to start posting them at my webpage. I am going to start a new thread that will very simply provide links to the files when they are created. Up to now I have been renaming the files to indicate the year as I keep archives of all the data throughout the game. I will try to only rename the .zip files when posting the data for everyone to make it easier to find.

In case you do not want to go to the other thread here is the link to the 2408 data. I will be updating the map to indicate the location of known fleets and will upload it again once that is done.

Better idea - as long as you are posting the files on your website, why not just create some XB .gifs (or .jpegs or whatever you prefer) on the website and post the link here so we can all click on it and see the results?

Unless you're busy, of course! Wink

Hmmm... good idea, I will post links to those in the thread that I created for posting data. I will post there to let you know that the new XB maps are up.

Who can possibly find time to be busy? Confused2 Way to many things going on in my life to be busy. Nana nana bubu If I do find the time I might even go back and create the XB maps of all the years that I have, but for now I will just do this and subsequent years. Razz

Please send scout #36 toward Crabby at Warp 10. I will risk losing it to warpcore overload to get it in range of Crabby and out of range of the DD. We have other scouts that can scout the unknown planets.

I have changed its orders to go to (1402,1090) at Warp 10 which will put it withing scanner range of the planet. I am not sure that this is out of range of the Atreides destroyer though, but if we want to scan the planet that is the best I could come up with. Any suggestions? The following year that scout will continue moving out of range while scout #37 overwarps close to crabby to continue the surveilance on the planet.

1404,1098 is in range of crabby and out of range of the scout. The other location is within range of the scout. Be sure to set your speed manually to warp 10. Your JOAT scouting ability is awesome.

As I see it, (1404, 1098) is closer to their destroyer at (1413, 1170) than the (1402, 1090) that I proposed earlier. Is this not the destroyer that you were talking about avoiding?

[1404,1088] is 82.49 lys from the DD at [1413,1170] while ] is[1402,1090] 80.75 lys from the DD. These are the distances from based on my scanner. To double check, you use a calculator and {[x1-x2]^2 + [y1-y2]^2}^(1/2) you also get the same numbers. So I believe my coordinates are correct. What I do is after I get to those [1404,1088] I then set an additional 2nd waypoint as the DD at [1413,1170] and read at the distance. I displays 82.49 which is out of range at [1404,1088]

I agree with you that (1404,1088) is outside the range of the Destroyer, the confusion came in because your original message said (1404, 1098). Now that we have that all cleared up, I will resubmit the turn with the adjusted waypoint location.
