I've changed the rank system to use Star Fleet ranks (TNG) and created some rank insignia graphics to match what I found on the 'net.

Commander
Lt. Commander
Lieutenant
Lt. Junior Grade
Ensign
Cadet (4 levels)
Petty Officer (3 levels)
Specialist (3 levels)
Crewman (3 levels)

Some new Smileys have been added. Yey

I'm still looking into ways of bringing the posts from the other forum over to this one.

Rank structure updated to reflect additional information I found on the 'net.

Rank graphics created by Steve Marriott. I attempted to contact every Steve Marriott I could find via email, with no result.

I attempted to contact Mike Tripp, the web designer of the site where I found the graphics, with no reply.
http://ds33.com/ranks.htm

Let the record show that I did attempt to ask permission to use the rank insignia graphics. On the credits page http://ds33.com/credits.htm it says that Steve Marriott is willing to share his graphics, if asked first.

I've finally finished the new Rank Point System.

Rank is no longer based on number of posts. It is based on the following:

1. Staying on the subject of the topic or message replied to.
2. Helpfulness in tutoring, answering questions, strategies, etc.
3. Quality of data in post.

Points are assigned by me and range from 0 to 5 per post.

I have already assigned rank points to every message on the board, so some users will see their rank has changed.

Rank points will not be visible to anyone since it would slow the system down to recalculate for each message displayed. They are only calculated when a message is posted.

This is my attempt to keep a neat rank system (my opinion), and yet prevent abuse by people posting just to gain rank. Some of you may not like the new system, and I'm sorry. Rank will be earned. Hard workers will gain rank faster, and rank will actually mean something.

Frankly, I'm having fun molding this board software into what I envisioned it should be.

Wait who, you mean you're going to read every post on here... Well I guess it isn't as active as some places. Atleast you won't need any moderators. the only other way I have seen the horrible abuse of posting messages everywhere for rank was to ban the guy. Well he managed to change his IP and flamed even worse, oh well, this system sounds like it'll be neat. Shame I have nothing usefull to say Crying or Very Sad

Great to have such a "homey" stars site to "visit".

I sometimes browse around all the other sites dedicated to stars!

I get this REAL SAD Crying or Very Sad , EMPTY feeling , seeing all the derelict sites out there ... kinda creepy too ... its like walking around an old abandoned warehouse you can almost hear the ppl still playing an ... I'm rambling aint I?

Ok Well in short I want this game to go on forever , so dont go away ya hear!
Very Happy

I do plan on adding the ability for admin to assign custom ranks, but will have to do some programming for that. After that is done, I can give you a real custom rank instead of just Stars! V.I.P custom tag.

So please don't feel slighted just because I have a 'Stars! V.I.P' custom rank on SBD forums, and you only have a 'Stars! V.I.P' custom tag here on HWF.

Here are the correct credits for the rank insignia graphics used on the Home World Forum:
Quote:

"The rank insignias on this site where created by Steven Marriott, originally for the Tango Fleet PBE-RPG. Please do not copy the images. If you wish to obtain them and an up-to-date copy either access the Tango Fleet Website, or visit the RPG-Insignias Website. You will find all the information you need on these, and many other insignia images. Steve is more than happy to pass along his work to anyone who takes the time to simply ask."
