While I appreciate your efforts in setting up the game, I'm not comfortable with discussing general rules via individual mails only.

Play in a different game or find a different host. This is not a suggestion. This is not negotiable. Troll

My time is finite and I believe valuable. My time to spend on stars is considerably finite, and whether others find it valuable is up to them. I cannot or won't (take your pick) allow my time to be monopolized in this forum by games other than Stars!. nmid is a repeat offender on this count. Periodic and perennial difficulties with nmid made me pause before offering to host this game (I tried to talk several others into volunteering). nmid is the primary reason I have asked Runar and Victor to co-host; every single game I have hosted in which nmid has joined have resulted in nmid forgetting, misinterpreting, of otherwise violating the rules. This has happened in games that he wasn't even supposed to be in, as he used a go-between or sockpuppet (take your pick) to avoid my scrutiny. A brief skim of other game stories will show this is not confined to games that I host. I believe in giving people chances, but nmid has used all that I am willing to give. If somebody else wants to host, they are welcome to my notes and testbeds.
Cheers

If your time is limited why not allow a group discussion to happen?
Surely that would take less of your time than individual conversations with everyone... unless of course there is no intent to allow any discussion at all.

And then a wandering sock puppet show appeared just in time to unironically demonstrate the corollary of reading comprehension's impact on ability to reason. Woooooo. ROFLMAO Move along tiny sock puppet.

When you accuse someone of being a sock puppet do you want to provide any evidence at all - no, because you can't.

You don't seem to understand the concept that people might talk to each other, and maintain a relationship based on shared interests. Shame, because you clearly have a significant amount of time to put into these games, but your attitude towards other people stinks.

If you had access to the relevant logs I'm pretty sure that you would see that mid and I are posting from very different locations, just one hint that there is no puppetry going on (although there might be a conversation out of band, how shocking).

Sock puppet, cut-out, I don't care. Your comments are off topic and irrelevant to this game. You are not in this game, so have no business here other than to be disruptive on nmid's behalf. Go away.

My comment here are were not intended to be disruptive, but to question an apparent logical inconsistency in your position.

"My time is valuable so I want to deal with everything individually" is, to put it bluntly, stupid.
One of the beauties of the inter-web-net-thingamybob is the ability to have group conversations - which saves a lot of time.

Your subsequent comments have been nothing more than baseless personal attacks.

Thanks for responding to the survey so quickly. I was surprised by some of the results, and am glad to get your comments. The following should well reflect your combined interest. Now that we have a final final set of rules, lets push the race file deadline out a week, say 0800 Zulu 18th May. I am setting up a new email just for this game and will send the address to everyone on the list. I suspect we might get one more.

You may PM me your show of interest with subject "Xiao", explain to me (1) your level of experience, (2) type of races you might want to play, (3) if you have not played on SAH or another game I have hosted then include a brief outline of your whole-game strategy and how it fits your intended race type into this particular game setup. Please restrict your message to 300 words. The game setup and rules are reasonably complicated. Adherence to such a set of rules and competing in such a setup requires some degree of ability. Your show of interest is to some extent a test of this ability.

Universe and Game Parameters
Galaxy remapped to a bullseye comprising an outer ring and inner core. HWs distributed equidistant along outer ring. Number of planets per player as close to 35. Density within core and ring is closest to dense (~2.5 stars/10kly^2). Dimensions of structure determined by (1) 10x #players stars in core at 2.5 density, (2) gap width 100 ly less than core radius, (3) sum of number of stars that would populate gap if 2.5 density and actual number of stars in game provides radius of outer ring via the square root of number stars over density, all over pi and rounded to the nearest multiple of four (if remapped to large) or 5 (if remapped to huge).

Acc BBS on. PPS off. Random Events off.

Race Restrictions and Penalties
IS: 50 points set to defenses.
IT: 100 points set to defenses.
HE: No -F. Settings 10/10/10 at least (away from -F settings).
Joat: 50 points set to defenses, No NAS or enough points left over (in addition to first 50) to remove NAS.
CA: A number RW points set to defenses and MPGR such that the growth rate may be increased 4% (points may be used to purchase Ultimate Recycling).
All: Weapons expensive, Con not Cheap.

Starting Ships
Players start with a cache of up to 42 scrappers (DNA Scanner, Beam Deflector, RadRam FFs for chance of up to level 6 in all techs). Host will use Jrc3 modded with Stars Editor and the zerohack module to set the tech level, resource cost, and mineral cost of ship hulls and components to zero. Because SAH does not use modded EXEs, all modded ships will need transfer tags before genning on SAH. The ships are queued in 2400, given orders to transfer in 2401 (necessitating change in player relations), given orders to transfer back in 2402, and game files are distributed/loaded on SAH at year 2403. If a race takes NRSE, their scrappers get DDL7s instead of RadRams. There are no special restrictions on how you choose to use your scrapper frigates.
Number of FF by PRT:
Joat, IT = 12
CA = 18
IS = 24
All others = 42
AR may trade 21 FF scrap for 21 SS scrap (QJ5/Wolv).
Everyone gets a choice 3 additional starting ships based on race ability as if all tech expensive and start at (x) box checked. These ships may further use Alpha Drive 8, Radiating Hydro-Ram Scoop, Possum Scanner, Wolverine Diffuse Shield, Carbonic Armor, Yakimora Light Phaser, Beta Torpedo, Black Cat Bomb, & Robo Miner as allowed by LRT.

Schedule
800 GMT every day through 2436. After 2436 the game can switch to 5 turns per week upon request of any 3 players, and 3 turns per week upon request of any 4 players. After 2472 the game can switch to 2 turns per week upon request of any 5 players. Game will be on holiday 19th June through 1st July, and for 1 gen around each 23rd November, 25th December, & 1st January.

Everyone starts with two delay requests, and those surviving through 2460 get a third. Requests may be used to delay no longer than two regularly scheduled gens, and may be split at host's discretion.

Communication and victory conditions:
No pregame alliances. No communication. Hosts will start disseminating information every ~5 years sometime after 2440. This will include tallies of planets, SB, armed ships, tech levels, resources, & score, of those players in the top 2-3 positions per criteria. Players must advise host of change to race file password.

Single player victory. All other players must be set to enemy. Fleet setting to attack "nobody" or "everyone" only.

Victory is determined by a vote. 100% of the votes required to win. Each race still in the game gets one vote.

Player Exploitable Bugs / "Features"
Repair after gating, chaff, ISB trumps IT gate scanning, split fleet dodge are allowed.
Mine damage dodge and mine damage allocation are allowed.
Do not cause target list overload: do not cause more than 100 of your fleets to be at any one location.
Do not cause battleboard overflow: do not send more than 75 of your tokens into a battle (merge happens after battle).
Do not put alpha or beta torps on ships with more than two engines.
No explicit ban on minimum damage, but the last two should be adequate to nerf it.

AR exception: Alternate Reality PRT may build up to 6 cheap colonizers (Colonize without Colonizer), anytime up to 2415.

Anything else on the Known Bugs (JRC3) - Player Exploitable Bugs / "Features" list is disallowed. See the list in the Must Know section of the forum.

Please don't confuse the conversation talking about "fairness".

I see. You can stand on your personal fairness soap box but nobody else can. He has treated the players equitably, gave us all the same avenue for input and desires. You're the only one asking for special treatment. You're the only one who picked a fight. You deserve any grief you get.

Moving along now, sorry everyone else for feeding the argument.

Leave him alone. He volunteered. Whatever his shortcomings it is his prerogative to set the rules and run the game as he sees fit. I haven't seen anything unfair from him in the least. I wouldn't blame him at all for booting you. If you were on the soccer field you would get a yellow from me for arguing with the ref the first time around, and this might well be a red. Then you get a nice view from the bench and a ban from the following game.

Clearly a sock puppet / cutout Razz

I should note at this point that I have no evidence, nor any actual suspicion that BlackBlast is a sock puppet of NH.
But he's agreeing with him - so that *must* make him a sock puppet, amiright?

Hi,

it seems the final rules are out so we could all stop talking. Also we should not speak in this topic about private messages we got we are in the new game section so
stay with it.

The final rules are most the same as the first topic was. So everyone has to choose if he wants to be in the game or out.

If you dont stop I will light up my mod and end it.

Hope there will be a great game starting soon.

Hi ,

This are the points you should speak about :
Replies to new game annoucements should fit the following conditions:
1. Confirmation that you are interesting in joining the game.
2. Question on game settings/rules.
3. Reply/clarification from game host on game settings/rules.
4. Pre-game announcements by game host.

All others should be posted in a other Topic like the bar or somewhere else.

We have now the final rule of the game from neil. And that he set a time for get in the races if realy needed as else we have to wait for years.

Manilurch has the idea of the game and give the host power to neil so all fine.

The host is not a god but he has the saying to the game. He has to get togetter all the wishes of all players what is hard enouth.

So you all stay in topic please we are all adults.

And there are a lot of players around who could do the hosting work, but so far only a handfule do it on a regular base. To say I could do it better it is easy

Shoow it to us all in the next games. ( But not this one )

ccmaster

Please stay all in topic , if you have anything to say PM me or send me an email for faster response

Sigh, not again... The Stars! community has shrunk quite a bit since I started SAH 20 years ago. I hope you're happy that there are still players around and who are willing to play Stars!.

  1. The game host either sets the rules if its his game, or follows the rules laid out by the OP if he is asked to host it for the OP.
  2. If a player wants to play in the game, he agrees to follow the rules.
  3. If discussion happens, that's fine, but in the end, the OP/host has the final say.
  4. If a player doesn't agree with the rules, he shouldn't play in that game.
  5. I believe personal attacks and name calling should be done in private. When done in public, it hurts us and may drive off potential new players.

I don't know why nmid and neil can't get along. And please, neither one of you respond to that statement. I think both of you are at fault with this, I don't want to get into specifics. Can a mod please move all the bs to another thread in the circular file (which is where it belongs).

I asked for a volunteer to host, because I wanted to play in this game. Neil volunteered. I think Neil is a great host, he puts a lot of effort into setting up games. A lot more effort than I put into hosting and more than most.

Now I do understand that if Nmid has some personal issues with Neil, that he would want a different host. But I am not changing hosts. The game is ready to go and it took a long time to get to this point.

Nmid has some very strong opinions on how a game should be setup. But we voted and rules are set. He should start a new game with all of the rules that he wants and the host he wants. If you do setup your own game, try time it so it is starting when this one is about 2440 or so so I can play in both Very Happy

We had a set of rules that were set, and a set of rules that all the players voted on. Neil didn't force any rules on us. The idea of possibly having the host disclose information about the top players was not Neils idea. Itzok suggested it. Neil formalized it and put it to vote. I think the reason for the private vote is a person's vote might reveal the type of race that they want to use. Group discussions are fine for the rule setups.

Neil and Nmid should either find a way to get along, or stay away from either other. But keep the crap off the forums.

10 files received in good order.

Rules Clarification: You may choose different designs for your 3 extra starting ships. Designs must be buildable by your race e.g. no rad rams for NRSE, no mine layers for WM.

I am conferring with hosts regarding relative player positions. Starting universe creation now.
Nice seed value found for mineral concentrations. Universe stretched and remapped.
Still considering who gets which neighbor. Significant consideration. Saving all documents and communication for post-game analysis. Hoping documentation of this process will help future game setup. While this process continues I am calculating coordinates for WH placement (once decided) as well as gaps need filling in for even distribution of stars. Next big hurdle will be regulating hab distribution. "There will be spreadsheets" is now the threat looming on the horizon. Aiming to have game files to Ron by Wednesday.

I started with a medium dense to get the right number of stars, and then I stretched it to make it big enough for the template. For the last few days I have had a little time to work on calculate hw placement. I now have 2 whole days to get it wrapped up. I was wondering why my numbers kept coming back wrong. I only stretched it to Large; it needed to be Huge. Looks better now.

Might have a player dropping due to hardware issues.
If this is the case you can expect:

#P*Ideal...........Real/#P
09*35=315.....288/09=32

#P.Core Radii.Gap Width.Ring Width.Distance Between HW
09.....340..........240..........188..........~460

So one issue with how ms paint parses coordinates. I will detail this a little bit more with the following.
UnivCrt has 2 issues: close to borders get wonky & vertical/horizontal skew.
Templates utilizing the edges will likely see problems. To get past this in our case we will just stretch to the next size.
C:\xiao\stretch.exe gongji.xy 3 4

338.5/5=68
(338.5+238.5)/5=115
766.97/5=153

Since we are using a 400x400 mask, subtract the above values from 200 to get start points for drawing circles, then double the values and add 1 to make them square. If you are paying attention and notice the weirdness between the maths and the status box, thank the designers and drink to Stars!.

A 2nd issue with UC_1.3 is that it tends to skew x short and y long. If it does this we just need to tweek/twiddle the respective values drawn on the mask. To test it if this is needed we check the quartiles in our new map file. Load your mappy map into excel and since we are working with 288 planets we can cheat by first looking at the vals for 2,73,74,145,146,217,218,289 with sorts of low to high for x and y.

I had got most of the work done during the vacation days I took specifically to setup the game... then player 9 dropped. I have PTO requested and approved for Monday through Wednesday. We have a player away through the end of the month iirc. Thanks for your patience. I can't wait to watch you kill each other.
