Hi. I've been using the stars autohost client with great success the last years. But a couple of days ago it stopped working.
Just displays null, and "Player 5 could not be found"
Just wondering if it's just on my side, or if something have changed on the server side?

Yes, it's looks like they changed something a few days ago, the file looks like it changed from

http://starsautohost.org/starout/gtplanet/gtplanet.status

to

https://starsautohost.org/starout/gtplanet/gtplanet.status

I'm sending off a email to Ron shortly.

This is the file that Autohost Client retrieves
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN">
<html><head>
<title>301 Moved Permanently</title>
</head><body>
<h1>Moved Permanently</h1>

Correct. I setup SSL on SAH for the first time. The client needs to be updated to poll a https link instead of http.

I just did this same thing (with Let's Encrypt) on a website. The solution was to allow both HTTPS and HTTP during the CertBot setup, and just put the forums under HTTPS with a .htaccess rule in the forums sub-folder:

# start
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off
RewriteRule (.*) https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI}
</IfModule>
# end

This allows all other services to still work with HTTP while providing the needed security for the forums.

Fixed. I removed the force redirect from http to https. The AH Client should work now.

I set the base URL for the forum to https, so all forum pages will be https.

Is there something wrong with the autohost client again?
I get http 503 error (Service Unavailable), so has something changed on the server side?

I've not done anything that would affect it since my other post above.

Hey guys.

Do I need to do anything special to get the client to work apart from the tiny bit it asks me for during setup? My internet connections say I'm not using a proxy, so it should need nothing in that area. Upon startup, the client tells me either,

"Error contacting Autohost," or,
"There was a problem checking the stati,"

depending on different things I try to get it working.

I made sure to use the "/" separator for the directories, as described on the info page.
I've tried the full game name, Plain Vanilla 2018.
I use the Stars!Box download.
The client is in c_drive with the Stars! game file.
The game files directory is the PV2018 folder in d_drive.
My game and upload passwords are typed correctly.

It also can't find my player number, and has "null" for Autohost time.

I've tried playing with where I say the game files are, as well as the game name.

Was any of that improper?

Edit: Have now also tried to set game as "Local" instead of "Autohost." It recognizes that the game is on manual generation, finds player 7, but won't launch, poll, or analize, can't read the .x file, and thinks I'm not turned in yet when I am.

Edit2: And now it's working just fine. How strange.

Was it, by chance, not working while autohost was "on hold"?

Hi Altruist.

I don't know, when does it do that? It was during normal turn schedule, if I remember correctly.

It still won't download or upload, but now it shows submittal status and reads .f files. Turns out I had to put the name of the game in all lower case, abbreviated, and tell the client that the files for the game are stored with the executable, itself. They aren't, but oh well. Tried guy's email to give him the error report, was returned to sender.
