As the title said, do we have people wanting to get into a simple, no-fancy-scenario, Stars! game?

5 or more players, universe size Medium or Large. Some agreed on rules about PRT's, etc.

If it was to be at a slow pace (2/week after the initial drive) then I might - but possibility of new job means a strong not yet Wink

I'll be strongly interested.
Prefer known players in the game, not new spawn Smile
Won't mind anonymous player format though (only host knows which race is played by what).

Few quick questions.

Random events? (Yes to WHs, no to MTs Very Happy)
Alliances? (Meh, would prefer no)
Communications? (same.)

I know my minefields.. but I'm a chaff sweeper.
I used to curse when I got stuck in traffic... till I realised I AM traffic.

Possibility became firm.... I've got to concentrate on that for a while...

I'm new, this would be my first game against humans. But I've got it down.

No, you don't. That's like reading up on how all the pieces move and saying you've got chess down.

But take heart! You will learn much in the months to come. Very Happy

Care to explain why? The Stars! community is not exactly a very friendly place for newcomers as it is.

I, for one, would certainly like to see a game directed purely at "new spawn", as you put it. They need to learn the ropes somewhere, y'know.

I suspect it's the radical imbalance they can bring if there is limited comms.

It's one reason I like comms. I'm still learning, and the ability to discuss and throw tactics around is invaluable for that...

As Bob said,my main issue is it's more likely the new players get eaten up by more experienced neighbours.. and that results in a very skewed pointless game from the get-go, especially so in a no-comms game.

That makes sense, obviously Smile This is also the reason why I would like to see a game directed purely at new players - perhaps with some guidance regarding basic "vs. human" gameplay by an experienced host. I was just getting an impression that this might be such a game, when I read that "simple, no-fancy-scenario" part of the OP.

I'm already gearing up for a "very-fancy-scenario" game anyway... so, I think I'll leave this one parked here Smile

Yes, that does skew the game. But I remember when I was the new player getting eaten up by the more experienced neighbors, those were the games I learned the most from. I took the information from those games, how fast, what tech, how many ships etc took me out and I started testbedding races so I could match/beat that.

I think we do need some games geared for new players, if we don't do that then we won't get new players.

That's what I meant. I've been studying the game for a little over a year now, and have finally hashed out some things about just playing. I'm certainly not "ready" vs humans. Sneakiness, what's actually important in competitive races, diplomatic scouting/settling, hiding prt/lrt's--that's what I need learned on.

As for easy vs tough neighbors, it's the natural order of things: when you join adult society, you're competitors aren't handicapped.

Besides that, I am considered for the game, "Get the Planet," if somebody doesn't show. I requested to be in that game first, so, you know.
