This is another attempt at Leaf in the Wind, because that game did not get off the ground. I've copy/pasted the following:

Small/Dense/Distant

New game for all takers.

No HE, No CA.
JOAT can't take NAS. Trying to encourage more interesting PRTs.
No -f QuickStart. Trying to give newer players a decent game.

Communication allowed. Diplomacy is part of the game.

Standard cheat disclaimer
--Chaff allowed
--Split-fleet dodge allowed
--Heal after gating allowed
--Everything else under the "Player Exploitable Bugs" section of the Known Bugs list is cheating

24 Hr Gens until 2 or more players request 48 Hrs.

Host is playing.

Send race files to awelty1 (at) neb.rr.com. Race files due by April 9. If we get enough players, I'll bump it up to a Packed Small Universe, or if the interest is sufficient, a Dense Medium Universe.

Trying for a nice even game for new and returning players.

Keep calm and carry on!

I don't have enough bandwidth to play well, but I'm good to host if you'd like a neutral host. I'm at the tail end of refereeing Goats, and it has been a good game.

vmanuel, I will take you up on that offer. I've never hosted before, and a neutral host does offer some benefits. Email me directly please, so that we're fully in touch before tomorrow's start date. I'll send you race files.

Keep calm and carry on!

I'll join. Depending on how work goes I may have a hard time working it into my schedule, but I think I can manage.

Hello players! Today is start day, and I wanted to say a few things.

Victor Manuel has graciously offered to host this game. This means the host is NOT playing, and Victor will serve as referee. This also means EVERYBODY needs to send him race passwords. I'm going to email each player individually with the same instructions. I'm emailing the race files I have to him directly as well.

We should have everything ready to start the game today. It is my hope that by tomorrow, we will have a first turn to play!

This is a portion of his email to me this morning:

I'll walk you through what my process will be:

Verify race files meet the game parameter (yes I'll need passwords).
Create universe with evenly distributed stars. I will generate about ten copies for this, unless the game grows to a larger number of players.
I will spread each player to an evenly located point in the universe. This keeps people from complaining about poor placement. Also, we have found that circular universes are more fair in this regard.

Now I will also verify that players have a relatively fair start. I make sure that each player has a number of green and yellow planets relative to their Hab range in their race file.
This is the trickiest part, and requires a LOT of moving planets around. But the end result tends to be fair.
I also make sure the primary race types are spread out evenly. Having two ITs next to each other or three WMs in a row is hell on the game.

I will keep track of the rules and make sure players are being fair. I'll add some comments to the board and ask questions as well. My goal is for you and everyone else to have a fun and challenging game!

Victor.

I may be crazy to do this, but it's a fun ride.

If you would like to verify how your race would work and what the universe would look like, let me know. I will generate a small/distant/dense universe in a circle shape with your race only, and you can practice.

Once all races are in, the game should take 3-4 days to generate. I'll ask for a race file deadline after everyone has seen the practice universe.

If you want to change your race after I send you a practice universe, by all means please do. Also, please send any further input to breezegamehost at gmail(dot)com. That is the account all of the game activity will use. Don't worry if you sent something to my personal account; I've got it and will copy the files over.

Lastly, what are the winning conditions? Do you want to have single player via vote of the other players? That's usually the easiest.

Ever Onward,

Victor.

In order to save time (it's easier to do it all at once) I went ahead and sent all four players a sample universe with their race as the only player. Check it out and send me any updates if you'd like.

Rock On,

Victor.

All race files have been sent back out with a small testbed. This universe is similar (NOT the same) to the one we'll be using. A small/dense/distant galaxy, with ABB start.

If everyone can have any changes to me by 6:00 GMT Wednesday, I'll start generating the universe.

BIG QUESTION: Is everyone okay with victory conditions of Single Player wins by vote? This would mean that the only way someone can win is to call a vote, and everyone votes on who the winner is.

Raythe, it's your call in the end, but that's what I would recommend.

Ever Onward,

Victor.

Yes, a vote for the winner seems to be the best option. I never was really happy with the game's built in victory conditions; the players will naturally know who the winner is eventually.

Okay, all the races are in, and we have a whopping 7 players!

Druids
Mongols
Ulquaan
Creens
Syphon
Bruncas
Otters

For seven players, a Medium universe is recommended. Raythe, if you're okay with this, I'll set it for Dense/Medium/Distant.

Victor.

I've begun generating the universe. It will take a few days to make sure it works correctly, so expect an email from breezegamehost@gmail.com by Monday/Tuesday latest.

Universe is complete, and game files have been sent to all players.

I am uploading the game to Ron at the same time. Some time this week, you should receive an email from Stars AutoHost with your upload password and the location of our game.

Note: I set up the game so that each player has roughly 16 planets within a Warp 9 start. Whether or not these planets are good for your race is based on your habitability range. If you have a wide hab (1 in 3 planets), then you may have as many as 6 green worlds around you. If you have a narrow hab (1 in 16+) then you will have as little as 1 Green planet nearby. The general area of the universe is set similarly. I tried very hard to make sure that everyone comes off to a fair start, based on their race parameters.

Lay On!

Victor.

We're about 5 turns in (thanks again to Victor for hosting this) and the game is currently on hold. I assume this is because of the problems with Stars Autohost yesterday, but I want to drop a note and confirm for everyone that the game will resume soon. Is this correct?

Hi All,

Player 1 has the same Serial number than me... I have entered another one when stars asks me to change it. I am not sure it will work. I am not sure to do the right thing. Please help!

This should get you going in the right direction. Just delete your stars.ini file, enter a new serial, save and sumbit your turn, and you should be all set.
On a side note: how come you have the same serial as somebody else in this game? Using serials donated by former SAH members, perchance? Consider contacting Ron for a brand new and unique serial you won't have any problems with.
Question for a host: did copy protection trigger for Fabrice and Player 1? if yes, maybe there's a need to regen the turn to rectify the turn for both of them?

Hi All

This is the third turn that I have the serial number problem. I have asked Ron to get my SN.

So I am sorry to tell you that I quit the game.

Bye
