I'm trying to run Stars on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS in Wine, I can run other programs but Stars won't start up, I just get a busy signal for a moment and then nothing. The Stars! Calculator and other things start right up without a problem.

I've tried version 26 & 27 and I do have the wavemix.dll in the same folder.

Any ideas

There is a problem that some kernel versions don't allow 16 bit code to run.

Try opening a terminal (control+alt+t) and running stars from there, it should give you an actual error message.

I'm getting a "krnl386.exe16" failed to initialize.

Googling it looks like I have to do "sudo sysctl abi.ldt16=1" and now it runs.

I will be adding it to a "conf" file

'/etc/sysctl.d/20-wine-ldt16.conf' with 'abi.ldt16=1'

it's running now, thank you

Ed

Excellent. I couldn't get it to work on one of my machines, I should probably upgrade. What kernel version are you running (uname -a)

You should be able to make the change permanent by adding it to your /etc/sysctl.conf file as well.

it's

Linux ed-laptop 3.13.0-35-generic #62-Ubuntu SMP Fri Aug 15 01:58:42 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/

Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

It's running fine now on my test machines but I had some problems setting it Ubuntu up as my main OS on my main computer. I kept getting permission errors on programs and I don't have the time to mess with it for now.

it's running fine on single disk systems, my problem is with my SSD and HD pool, I just need to learn some more to get it working.

Thanks for the help
