Fuel question

Just a quick question. For once I actually have ramscoops beside the mizer, and actually built some minelayers using the radioactive ram scoop. So I started wondering, is it always bad to run out of fuel? Does it stop dead in the water for the rest of the year? Or will it continue at warp6 for the rest of the year? If it will get just a few ly away at higher warps when fuel is low I guess I have to do some more microing than if it just reduces to warp6 for the rest of the year.

Now that is a good question. I have never bothered to test it, as it hasn't mattered for me. When I have had ships run out of fuel, that has been ships where it wasn't important exactly when they reached their destination - Mostly it has been long range scouts collecting low importance information, such as what races on the other side of my neighbours was doing.

It should be pretty easy to test, though. Just send a ship with a ramscoop out at high warp with too little fuel to travel all the way at that high warp speed, and then see where the ship ends up. Then apply a little mathematics to the result to see which scenario fits that endpoint.

Hi!
When engine runs out of fuel, ship stops dead. Next turn it continues with the best speed it is capable off without fuel. It never accelerates by itself to higher speed, even if it is fully refueled.
