For some help with the pre-test of getting 20K of resources by 2450.

Use a Small/Packed universe with Acclerated BBS Play checked and your race as the only one.
Use a .DEF File to make the game

so you can reuse/redo the game.
Make a game using a random number (0 to 4096) and then do a pre-scan, find a universe that had good planets around your HW as it's hard to build planets that are more then 300lys from your HW by 2450 and you need good Iron on your HW.

Only research what you need, engines and ships(all you need is FM & PVT & Gates) and then go for terraforming (both research and on planets). You can get Ulta stations later.

I normally only play each turn until 2430 and then I play 2 or 3 turns at a time (I get bored)

Maybe it needs to be revised but host is calling for medium sparse.

You all have too many issues going on, I think

There's the game setup.

There's a test bed setup (which should be close to the game setup)

There's the Race Test setup (which is what I'm talking about)

I've never understood why there need to be a difference between test bed and race test setup. A race that performs well in packed need not perform well in sparse at all, so what you are testing is not whether the race is good, but whether the player is minimally competent. Also, it is extra work for players to first design and 'race test' a packed race, and then redesign and play test a sparse race. But I made this point before and I dropped out (unless the preparation drags into the new academic year Smile) so I'll stop arguing it.

Good to hear that, I was afraid I was missing something. Can someone give a ballpark estimate of what is achievable in a sparse uni? 10k?

In a medium sparse universe, yes 10k is achievable with no other players and a reasonable extra research going into weapons to simulate a real game. In my testing, I had a couple different designs get to ~12k under same conditions.

I did quite some testbeds in small and medium sparse, but not a single one got over 20k. And some were well below 10k, with heavy iron crunch being present in most of them (imagine universe where 4 planets in 3 warp-9 jumps had over 50 iron MC Shocked ).

Anyway, if there's no specification on the "proof" universe, I'll do mine in small packed with MaxMinerals. Razz

After reading everybody is having trouble with the 20k @ 2450
I too have been having some trouble with this, and i do not consider myself a AR newb

I am loving the dedication i am seeing in testbedding, the game should be good

so i suggest we change the requirement to something closer to:

10k+ @ 2450

the point of the testing is just to make sure there are no scrub races. if you guys are putting in the effort to max your race, that is good enough for me.

Please provide the files to skoormit via PM when you have a race you feel is competitive

Is this for sparse or packed? 20k with packed shouldn't be a really big problem, but it's imho kind of pointless to give a proof-of-race in radically different conditions from the game.

Would 10k@2450, medium/sparse, accBBS, no max minerals, be good?

sorry i didn't put in the uni specs for the testbeds

"Proof" testbed in medium sparse and my race sent to skoormit.
A lucky one testbed regarding greens, but again a bad iron/germ shortage, thanks to extremely low concentrations on more than a third of my close greens. The need to ship minerals accross long distances in sparse uni makes and additional set of ballancing problems... Crying or Very Sad

It turns out you can actually get 31k@2450 in med/sparse (acc) with a race that I think should be quite workable Smile

The hab draw was lucky, so I'll playtest a bit more before sending the files to skoormit.

@XAP, when is the deadline for races?
