Assuming people are using def files (and controlling the universe seed) is there an easy way to prescan the universe?

I recall there being an editor which allows you to provide nubians and elephant scanners at tech zero and cost zero - allowing a 2401 scanner to cover the whole universe - can they also be made available with NAS?

Can values be dumped from the hst file? (cos calculating hab from values is easy enough)
This would be my preferred solution!

Hi,

I could not give you the help you want but normaly you have not to prescan all of the univers.
1. Create the game
2. save the files
3. build 20 scouts
4. scan the 20 Planets around you
5. And check if you have us of this univers

So you can see if you have enouth Green Planets in your range to start with and how the Minerals look if the 20 around you dont fit you dont have to scann the rest.
And it is fast done in under 2 Minutes.

The stars editor / zerohack won't work if you have NAS.

You'll have to gen the universe with a non-NAS race 1st, then regen with your NAS race.
You won't be able to recycle the .h file, but you'll know where the good planets are.

My advise for seeking a good universe:

1. Build a seeker-version of your preferred Race with "Generalized Research" and without click NAS
2. Create a new universe with .def file
(..stars creates always the same universe for race-files with the same primary trait)
3. Open your .m1 file and research for Electronics
(..you need no further settings)
4. Generating 700 turns
(stars.exe -g700 game.hst)
5. View your universe

no need to have GR...

But if it's JUST the prt list that makes a difference then that would work - is the h file recycleable?

Definitely. Just drag it to the recycle bin when you are done with it. Trash

Laughing

As in can you load it with the "real" race...

If it's genuinely PRT only then that makes it alot easier to work out what universes there are...

Don't change your race too much!

Remember that the races are part of the random universe randomizer

With seed... only PRT und game settings have an influence on the universe.
No matter how much you change your race.

BTW the random number generator has a period of 4096.
Only 4096 unique universes are possible.

Mr.Fisch

That doesn't sound quite right, what about races that start with two planets ?

same PRT -> same universe

e.g. one .def file with seed
1st: IT as OWW
2nd: another IT as -F

Both are in the same universe with the same 2 planets.
But probably the second planets of the OWW has better habs Smile

This isn't true. At least not always. The second planet is different for different designs. Also, grav/temp/rad can be different for the second planets. All other planets remain the same.

I'll add for clarity's sake:

Only 4096 unique universes are possible for any given combination of PRTs and uni setup.

What we need's a few good taters.
