Something I often do:

1) See that a new turn has arrived via email.
2) Open Stars, load the previous turn.
3) Hit F9
4) Download the new turn (copying over the .m file)
5) Wait for the Windows chime and "New Turn Available" flashing in the taskbar.
6) Feel a little thrill as I open up the new turn.

Anyone else? Am I the only one who likes to do it that way (rather than downloading the .m file before opening Stars)?

What we need's a few good taters.

Automated scripts download the turn, export various reports, produce data on available materials/resources, build capacity of my latest ships... A text version of all 700+ messages regarding my empire.

Then open the file.

In the case of a team/close alliance game then all available turns are downloaded and combined reports are produced.

I like overwriting my .m# file (old file with the new one) and seeing that the file size isn't the same/new date stamp!
That brings about the same thrill as you described Wink

I would always save the old turns - each in separate folders.

But I did feel the thrill of opening a new turn to look at the map and developments in key areas.

That's part of the upload script...

I'm talking about the thrill of hearing the Windows chime and seeing the taskbar flash. It reminds of the old days, playing blitz games via IRC or LAN. You would finish your turn, hit F9, and twiddle your thumbs waiting for the other players to finish. Eventually the chime sounds, eliciting a Pavlovian response.

I like that chime so much that I force it to happy in my PBEMs.

I'll publish it once I have extinguished all hostile lifeforms in my current universes Wink

It contains both hosting and playing scripts.
