It's clear to me at the moment that I'm not going to be drowning in MM nearly as much as others in Lowtek, so....
As discussed in: http://starsautohost.org/sahforum2/index.php?t=msg&goto= 56363
I'm prepared to host, conditional on getting enough interested parties by the end of November. Game to start between then and the first half of January (dependent on player situations)
A jump started game, where each race starts (in 2500 or ????) with:
- no additional tech
- 1 million population (and matching mass of each mineral*) in Large Freighters
- 5 colony ships
- 5 scanning ships
- - With scoops (Decent range assured)
- - A decent range pen scanner (10 or so worlds scanned on turn 1)
But:
- NO home world
- NO weapons
- NO resources
- NO history file (i.e. no pre-scanned planets)
As host I will scrap all fleets and set the races to perform alchemy, whilst building tech and the donor ships with a my own race I'll also be watching for MT so that I can...
When I can I will load appropriate pop into Freighters from each race, with appropriate escorts, and send the relevant colonists/minerals to their start positions. I'll then detonate a genesis device on each HW (and secondary if appropriate) before leaving them pristine (but still with a 30% mineral floor)
This leaves all planets uninhabited and all races with an equivalent starting position
Races could choose to scrap some of the ships for possible tech gains - or use them for continued scouting/colonisation/transport - but they have to find somewhere to live first...
Interested parties:
- joseph
- nmid
- coyote
- marduk
Anyone else - that's going to be a small/tiny universe I suspect - I'd far rather see more people in a slightly larger universe.
Starting point for racial starting position changes (subject to discussion here - I'm not experienced enough to call these final by any stretch)
Quote:_
PRT/LRT specific alterations to starting colonists (Boranium will be used to match all fleet masses, in case you all see each other to start):
- AR +10% (i.e. 1 years travel loss)
- CA -25% (Insta forming)
- IT -10% (Instant docks)
- JoAT -5% (Quick docks, -5% if Construction expensive@4, -5% if NAS)
- IS -PGR% (i.e. ~2 years freighter growth)
- LSP -30%
- Imm -5% each
Penalties are additive (i.e. two immunities costs 10% not 1-(.95^2))
An insane CA could therefore rack up -25(CA), -30(LSP), -15(Tri Immune) for a starting pop of -70% or 300k!
If we get vastly different player levels then it might be worth adding personal penalties - again I'll leave that to the experience of the forum.

Hi,
Just thinking... SS would gain tech irregardless, because the builder race must research and gain tech...
There is an editor which can push up the tech of the architect race to required levels right out of 2401... then he is set to alchemy as well...
No tech will then be awarded to SS.

dj

Marduk wrote on Fri, 16 November 2012 19:36Also note that AR pop losses are only 3% per year. However, they will suffer the pop losses while in transit to the starting location so that must be considered as well.
-5% for each immunity, eh? Interesting. Immunites are worth more than normal since we won't start on a homeworld, so this is probably a good idea. I don't think I would make LSP -30%, though. It will be even more harmful here than a normal game, I would make it no worse than -15%. Probably no one would take it anyway, but at -15% it might be considered.
Oops - wrong percentage for AR. I'll account for initial transit losses though.
Yep, immunities were so heavily discussed that I thought it would add a nice twist. LSP is practically mandated without a penalty - I took the percentage directly from the RW - it's open to change. (Only two blunders so far?)

LittleEddie wrote on Wed, 28 November 2012 18:38I just did a very quick bench test.
I used a CA as the master race and took it to technology for LFs and Ferret scanners. The final tech was 4/3/1/8/8/6.
The SS ended up with 1/0/1/3/7/0 tech levels after starting at 0/0/1/0/5/0. So the SS got
Energy +1
Construction +3
Electronics +1
A lot depends on how the master race is set up, mine had energy & con cheap and El expensive.
I don't think that's too big of an advantage to justify banning them, but it may depend on what tech the host is planning on taking the master race to.
Winter is coming on so sign me up for this game.

Hi, yes, it appears that starting with an SS could just be penalized with a %pop charge...
However, its probably better to see the actual resource points and not the "levels" which are gained.
At any rate starting with con0 and getting con 3 is a minimal bonus... similar to a standard start for JOAT... nbd.

dj
