I've played a lot of Space Empires via the Play By Web site, and I realized that the experience could be streamlined quite a bit by replacing the website with auto-syncing via Dropbox. The basic idea is here:

... A couple of us do use it to play duels, but it's not something that is used for regular games on account of everyone having access to the .hst file and all the .m/.x files.

Agreed, password protection is a good safety buffer but not one that can be completely relied upon.

I know my minefields.. but I'm a chaff sweeper.
I used to curse when I got stuck in traffic... till I realised I AM traffic.
