(Now I can really no longer edit the first post).
Final player list: (green with race file, orange without race file, (B):beginner, (BA):beginner advanced, (IL):intermediate lower)):- Scott (IL, rusty oldtimer)
- Ben (IL, rusty oldtimer)
- Alex_heney (IL, rusty oldtimer)
- bluechucky (B)
- Asmodai (B)
- xb95 (B)
- Vostromo (BA)
- Mark Hewitt (IL)
- Axel (IL)
Dennis couldn't join due to RL-work and excused himself. So, Axel from the waiting list is in.
Some still tweak their race designs. Wednesday is dead line for race submission. On Thursday I'll setup the game. Race files in until then will be used.

Generally depends when Ron gets it up. Shouldn't take too long.
I know my minefields.. but I'm a chaff sweeper.
I used to curse when I got stuck in traffic... till I realised I AM traffic.Report message to a moderator

[last announcement, copy sent by email]
Ahoy cadets and welcome to Fledgling Admirals VIII
In the future we will lazily refer to our game as FA8.
The universe and intial game files were created today. And afterwards I sent the files to Ron who is running starsautohost where our game will be hosted. Ron will set up the game which is a partly automated and manual task. He is providing this great service to the Stars-community since years and if it will take some days until he will find the time, we will thankfully and patiently wait...
You'll be all notified by email when the game is ready to start. I'll give you an introduction how to upload/download turns then. And the first turn won't be generated before everybody has her or his orders successfully uploaded. It's quite simple once you have done it the first time.
We have 9 players and a nice mix of 3 beginners, 1 advanced beginner and 4 lower intermediates (of which 3 haven't played since ages and thus are refered to as "rusty oldtimers"). We have also quite an international mix of players and keep in mind that, while we use English for communication, for some it is not their native language (to this group I belong, too, so excuse if sometimes my expressions are a bit weird).
Final list of players (B):beginner, (BA):beginner advanced, (IL):intermediate lower)):- Scott (IL, rusty oldtimer)
- Ben (IL, rusty oldtimer)
- Alex_heney (IL, rusty oldtimer)
- bluechucky (B)
- Asmodai (B)
- xb95 (B)
- Vostromo (BA)
- Mark Hewitt (IL)
- Axel (IL)
For a while longer I'll not show the email-addresses of the players taking part. While you are encouraged to communicate with each other and diplomacy is surely an important part of Stars as can be role-playing, you are also encouraged to start communicating in dependence of what happens in the game: this means you usually wait with communication until first contact with an alien is made within the game and a channel of communication is agreed upon (Stars allows sending messages within the game to all or single races which will arrive with the next turn).
Once we have proceeded a bit further into the game, I'll also disclose the email-addresses (not here but in emails).
Most of you have probably already found out that there is a true wealth of articles concerning strategy and tactics and general game play in Stars. Especially in the beginning every few turns I'll send around some hints and links for further reading. Taking into account that all of you have already managed to work thru the lengthy announcement of the game, I guess that most of you feel similar like myself reading such articles as a supplementary pleasure. Especially because, as it is typical for 4X-games, in the beginning not so much is happening.
----
The announcement, sign in and setup phase is finished now and this thread can be closed. Further communication will happen via email, the FA private forum (later more about it) and ingame messages.
