CA - 50 point penalty but cannot take TT or 200 point penalty, players choice.

Why are you giving CA such a boost? Non-TT CA is already competitive with TT CA, especially in crowded environments. And now you're planning to give them less penalty than a JoaT?!

Actually I am playing by those rules right now, only one player took joat and no one took CA. You concern is addressed by my last update, sorry to stress you.

What other players do isn't my concern. What these players could do most certainly is. Shocked

So you're taking out everything about WM, -f HE, and so on that you said a couple of posts back?

Game setup:
- Large Normal
- Distant starting positions
- No AccBBS
- No PPS
- Random events on
- Slow tech

Racial restrictions:
- JoAT (100) and CA (200) take (points) penalties
- Weapons tech must be expensive
- No pre-game alliances

Playing rules:
- "Kill Starbase" battle order is banned
- Standard cheat disclaimer:
- - Split fleet/chaff/heal after gate all allowed
- - Min damage not allowed
- - - No building* alpha/beta ships after 2450, or your race has jihad tech. whichever is earlier
- - - To start a second torpedo slot on a SB the first slot must be full
* You don't have to scrap what you already have

Communications:
- In game meeting before communications allowed

I have reposted the relevant parts of it, you missed it because it was at end of last page, this update is as close to all original conditions and rules.

Victory conditions have not been discussed either, so we will use the 2 player victory condition common to most stars games.

As a side note: in a medium universe (which we are not playing) the WM and HE are VERY powerful.

By which you mean "2 player alliance victory by consensus of all other players"?

Yes, usually the winners are recognized and declared long before the galaxy is conquered.

It seems that the winner gets declared after a humongous fleet battle ends decisively.

Only 2 players maximum may share victory.

I've been caught in this trap before.

Designing a race which is not as optimal as you can get it "just because it is a beginner game" is only going to get you frustrated as you get hammered by "newbies" who did optimize more than you.

Better ram everybody and declare yourself advanced in the future than be miserable for the 6-12 months the game will run for.

My race file is ready.

It is probably already mentioned in this thread but I am too lazy to look thru 5 pages long of text. Could you tell me or PM me where you want the race file sent please?

Race file corruption usualy happen when you overwrite (edit) an already existing race file. Always make your final race file from a fresh race creation process.

The game also dislike a lot when you rename your race at race creation. If you did so you most likely will have corruption.

Clicking on another option other than 'custom' after you began playing with your race options is also known to be a problem.

I seem to get valid race files which play that game fine - but are corrupt on next opening.

It almost doesn't matter what I do, I tend to drift back and forth in the wizard, then save, but it happens when I recreate a race from notes as well (I.e. move through the wizard exactly once)

I've always been saving to a virtual network drive, or a *nix box though.

Out of interest when DO you rename a race? At the beginning of the process?

I have sometimes corruption problem if i dont start new game with that race(ie without starting game from turn 1 - only opening new race/edit old and save)

Try to open testbeded game, view race to see what were parameters of the testbeded race - then start new game in new window, go through race creation process viewing old race parameters(remember to slightly modify name of that race), then start that game.
Game saves your new race with all neccesary gamefiles - you should be able to open it and send it to sprocket without modifications....

Never, if possible.

You name them once then never touch it again if at all possible.

1) Before sending a race file to the host, open it to check wether it is corrupted or not. If it's ok send it without any changes.

2) In my experience the race file gets corrupted when editing/changing the race name after you have saved it the first time... and the new name is shorter or longer by more than 1 letter.

3) It is possible to rename the race afterwards. Here the workaround: You can change upto as many letters as in the old name rightaway. Additional letters you need to add/subtract by 1 letter (you can change one letter for the singular and plural name at the same time). Save it. Close. Reopen. Add/subtract the next letter. And so on.
When finished, go back to 1)

Never fiddle with the name, sometimes change it (from Humanoid) to a race name at the end of the process rather than the beginning though....

No files corrupted, still waiting on Maidens, 2 race files were sent back for minor correction.

I would strongly recommend against factoryless races in slow tech games.

There is still some time.

Exactly the piece of advice I'd give (if asked), but upgraded to:
"I would strongly recommend against factoryless races in any game in a large or huge galaxy, where there's more than 30 planets per player."
This comes from personal experience.
Slow tech only makes the -f race's life more miserable, as it largely nullifies one of its greatest advantages.
