In older versions of the game you used to get 16 blue lasers and 16 alphas on your starting SB. I'm not sure why this changed.

Likely was pre-v2.6/2.7.

I started with Stars! in the mid 1990's as a solo observer from afar. First a demo copy from a games disk (might be v2.6B). A while later I got the boxed set. Flimsy box is long gone but I still have the CD, the manual, and the guide with pretty pictures of all the non-MT components. Says version "2.70" which I think is refered to now as 2.7. Later upgraded a few times before getting on Autohost in 2006 and using 2.6JRC3/4 since.

In all of those I've always just seen the all-Laser starting starbase. Having 2 x 8 Alpha torpedoes in place of half the Lasers might make it marginally stronger.

And that shows how long its been since I've played... not so long ago as all that, but long enough ago that my oldest Stars memories got mixed up with more recent ones; I was thinking it was two slots of eight lasers and two slots of alpha torpedoes.

Okay, there have been a few turns and we seem to have the kinks worked out. This thread can be closed now. If any of the test subjects would like a game forum, let me know and if I get enough requests (4 of the 8, I guess) I will ask for one.

There's probably not much to talk about in the first few turns, but we might have plenty of vitriol to spit at each other later on when things start to get interesting. A forum could be nice then, but there's no rush.

I agree, although it may be more tidings of great joy we wish to share with all. Be seeing you. >:)

So before this tread closes, jennyhotchick vanished without a trace?
She left me with a broken heart and a drawer full on unused blue pills Sad
