I for one would like to take a moment and thank Jeff McBride very very much for this delightful pastime that he's given us Smile

After downloading and binding five 2" thick books of Stars! stuff from the FAQ and Newsgroup and spending countless hours testbedding, Oberlandering myself and studying in my ceaseless quest to achieve mediocrity to have the chance to tell Mr. McBride of the impact he's had on my life is a dream come true. I know that there's a bunch of us who've discarded jobs, wives, families and any semblance of a life who would be more than happy to offer Mr. McBride a chance to actually play this grand and memorable game that is his brainchild...........say Huge/Packed/ACCBS/Pre Game Alliances (us against him of course) and since he's our Creator surely in the interest of fair play a small handicap on his part (300 RW pts ought to do nicely) whatdaya say? Sounds good to me Angel

Actually, it would be interesting to hear if Jeff still plays Stars! even occasionally.

Hi Jeff! Glad to meet ya... Smile

I've been a Stars! fan for many years. I was a co-sysop back in the "per internet" days of the 386, and the local BBS. We had several DOS machines, running Desqview and Synchronet BBS software. We setup our first Windows machine on the LAN, just so we could host Stsrs! games. Very Happy

I lost contact with the Stars! community for a few years, but I've been back for a while now. I'm currently hosting my 6th game here, and plan to host several more, as long as Ron will continue to give me slots... Laughing

I've been a programmer since 1968, mostly mainframe Assembly and some Cobol. I worked for several years in the "online" business, then many more doing typesetting. My first home machine was the Atari 800. It used the same 6502 CPU as the Apple II, came with 64K, a SSSD floppy, a serious computer! I did 6502 assembly for a few years, then got my first x86 box. Wrote lots of 16 bit x86 assembly programs over the years. I'm currently playing with Win32 API programming, in 32 bit x86 assem. I guess you can say that I like assembly language. Twisted Evil

Anyway, I see in another post that you've been working on Stars! again recently. I'm just wondering if you share with us what you have in mind. Can we expect a new patch, or a new version? Do you plan to address any of the known bugs or "features"?

I know many here are interested in SN, but speaking for myself, I'm more interested in any plans for the "older" version. Confused

Also, check out my brand new Stars! web site. It's a mess now, but I'll be working on it this weekend, so don't be surprised if it looks "funky" from time to time... Shocked

Welcome back StarMaster. It is nice to hear from you again. There is something going on but we're not prepared to say anything about it yet. The net has enough vapor as it is. Wink

As a member of another board that Mr. Mcbride used to frequent, I was beginning to get worried that maybe he had fallen down a well and no one had found him Crying or Very Sad . However, when I read this message I was greatly releaved. Now I can go back to playing Stars! and patiently waiting for S!SG knowing that eventually it will come out. Cheers

Well, what do ya know 'bout that? Just as I start to think my optimistic outlook was starting to look totally out of place in a cold and Stars!less universe, hope rears its ugly head again.

Once again, and with feeling ...

Good luck, Jeffy, ol' boy. I'm still a-praying and a-hoping the new ver makes it big.
