<Scene: Clear, Star-filled sky filled with streaks and flashes>
"Trent Bahner, roving reporter with IGAN, here on the scene. Residents of the stage two colony Pluto were startled this evening by a brilliant light show over the western continent of Greenventure. The cause of this display is the first space battle ever to take place in an Altoid controlled system. While most developing colonies have a small compliment of Homeguard ships as a safety precaution against pirates and space debris, they have never seen battle before. Hold on a sec....
The Ministry of defense has issued a statement saying that an unknown vessel appeared suddenly and caught the Homeguard by surprise. The automatic defensive systems kicked in before the crew could identify the vessel and it was quickly destroyed. They believe the ship to be one of the mysterious vessels of the CheekyBugger race based on tactical data and initial investigations into the debris. Little contact has been made with this secretive race from far across the universe, although there is much speculation in scientific circles about their ability to avoid detection so easily. Hmm, it looks like their fancy stealth technology backfired on them today. This is Trent Bahner reporting in full sensevise from Pluto. Remember to stay tuned to IGAN for all your inter-galactic news.

Yes that's a fabulous way to describe the wanton destruction of an unarmed scout.
No alien ships have been shot down, accidentally or otherwise, in Cheekybugger space because we courteously have our battle plans set to only attack enemy craft.

Now regarding your story of the Cheekbuggers being unknown/secretive - the Altoid (JOAT) peoples have had scouts in Cheekybugger space for many many years.
You know the location of our HW. You know our racial type.
Unknown/secretive - I don't think so !

The Cheekybugger ministry of defense also has a please explain for your head of state.
In the same year, two of our scouts (at separate locations) were encountered by your destroyers.
Why is it that the scout that was destroyed, was closer to your HW than the other which wasn't attacked.
Methinks it was deliberate !!!

Cheekybuggers will accept an apology if Altoid high command desire to call this an accident. Otherwise all Altoid craft will be ordered to leave Cheekybugger space immediately and dawdlers will be shot down ! Shocked Shocked Shocked

We would like to send our appologies to the Cheekybuggers in regards to the incident which occured in Pluto orbit. It was an accident, our fleet at Pluto was caught by surprise and simply had incorrect orders. We have taken steps to prevent a repeat of this event in the future. We hope that this will not cause any lasting damage to our race relations.

W. Green, Ministry of Extra-Altoid Relations

Just wanted to clarify things.

The DD on Pluto had old battle plans and the other one which didn't attack your other scout had been changed. Due to my diplomatic situation with all the nearby races there was little reason for me to think about those DDs. After checking and changing all of the battle plans on my DDs I'm actually surprised that something like this hadn't happened sooner. However, it won't happen again. I'm still getting a handle on the whole friend/neutral/enemy thing since it's not a part of the game when you play vs AI.

I don't know how much experience you have with roleplaying, but the original message in this thread was in character, from the viewpoint of an Altoid news reporter. So imagine if your race was briefly contacted by an alien race years ago and then heard nothing from them afterwards and all the while you saw their ships randomly appearing and disappearing you would probably think of them as mysterious or secretive. When reading something written in character the words you should be on the lookout for are probably evil, vile, putrid, monsterous and things along those lines. Razz

Greetings to the Altoid peoples.
Cheekybuggers are happy with your response and are most pleased that relations between our two races have not been permanently damaged.
Now that you've explained the situation we see how this could have happened.
Altoid scouts on peaceful missions are more than welcome to continue in their exploration of our part of the galaxy.
Cool
