I have been an occasional stars player for years and I keep coming back because I haven't seen another multi-player turn based stratergy game with such depth. I haven't had time for as many online games as I would like - only played in two on autohost years ago. Now my kids are getting into stars!

I understand stars! is unlikely to be updated commercially so I would like to lend a hand with one of the clone or sequal projects. Stellar legacy does not seem to have progressed in years. Free stars seems to have come along a bit since I last looked at it, but from what I can see it has been idle for a while and has no client interface (gstars is at a trivial stage from what I can tell). Nova seems to be the most developed, but I am having trouble getting the client to run - it crashes after asking for the game file directory - and I am not as familiar with C# as I am with C/C++.

Is anyone active with these projects or have enough interest to bring me up to speed on them from a development perspective?

Have fun.

Dude i sent you an email, but yes i'm also looking into it, and would'nt mind working together...

So far dont use msvc2008 express theres something wrong there compatibility or something , will look into it laters... I'm using msvc 2008 professional.

Feedback for anyone that might have looked at the last project dump from sourceforge, and found the starmap control EXTREMELY slow especially when lots of scanner ellipses are being drawn directly to the map control , well thats sorted , just double buffer the onpaint method, do it manually, seems the style is not executed and doublebuffered parameter does not work could be i'm too noob regardding my c# skills i guess... And same goes for WM_ERASEBKND i intercepted that manully too to stop extra flicker, the control works VERY well now even though its GDI+
I'll guess 100000 time better hehe...

Congratulations on having them escape the thrall of all these First Person Shootemups, Sims and Mario Karts! Twisted Evil

It would be nice to have a decent Stars! client for when someone manages to build a decent server. Cheers

Graphic/GUI talent is hardest to find around here, as most of us seem to be beancounters at heart (except possibly Forceuser). Pirate

Also, bear in mind that a good User Interface for Stars -- one that will fit most people's needs -- won't be as easy to craft as it would seem. Rolling Eyes

Good luck!

So many Stars, so few Missiles!

In space no one can hear you scheme! Deal
