How about exploring the possibility to make the program run as an executable instead of having to rely on something I'll never install on my computer because I value my system stability and safety, instead?

Anything made by Microsoft and which is non system critical is dubious at best...

"Good to know it also works with 2.7. "
"And yellow is still the "friend" color, so it might be a bit confusing. "
Yes Yellow is the firend color, but it changes the color of the Ships to Yellow also, not just the quantity identifier.

Found an interesting thing with 2.7, If you are not Player #1 it seems that player #1 will always map to FFFF00 Yellow.
So if you are not player1 or player5 you would have TWO opponents with the FFFF00 color (also the friend color)
There are many occurances of FFFF0000 in the program so I'm not going to hunt it down to try to find it.
As a result I have switched out FFFF00 yellow to FFFF80 straw.

"Still, white is the player's own color, so it shouldn't be used for other players. "
Valid point but for the 2.6 utility just map your own player number to FFFFFF white.

Loading a hex editor and changing your own version of Stars! to get the colors you want is statisically WAAAAY safer than loading and running some black box executables.

But I'd need to do that for every game I'm in. What if I'm in more than one game at once? Hit over head

If you are in more than one game that has all 16 players then you should be Hit over head by wife/gf Razz

To use it you first need to download and install the .net framework which you can get from the microsoft website, the direct link to it is http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=085 6EACB-4362-4B0D-8EDD-AAB15C5E04F5&displaylang=en

Once you've installed .net then download the latest version of the colour changer from my website at http://stars.atlantissoftware.co.uk/StarsPlayerColoursChange r.exe and execute it, you should then get a screen as shown in the image at

If you get that screen then the app is successfully running, you then need to change the filename in the textbox to point to your stars exe, once you have done so click the load .exe button and the labels should change to the existing colours that are used in the executable.

Double click on the player you want to change and a dialog box will come up allowing you to select a colour to use, once you've selected a colour click ok and the label should change to the new colour you picked, repeat this double click/select colour/OK sequence for each player you want to change and when you've finished click the save .exe button.

Load up a game in stars and you should see the new player colours, if all you see is white text then click the view option and select player colors if it is not already ticked, if you are not seeing any text on the map then click the abc button and the 35 button next to it so they appear pressed down. You will always see white text for your own planets and ship counts and for any unoccupied planet, you will only see colours for enemy planets and ship counts.

If you follow the above and are still having problems then let me know how far you are managing to get and details of any message if any that you are getting. It will only change the 2.6JRC4 english version of stars, if you are using something else instead then you can download it from the autohost website at http://starsautohost.org/files/stars26jrc4.zip

Greetings. Reviving this old thread, as I'd like to get my hands on a color-changed version of stars to play around with.
What I'd like is the color-changed client refered to in this thread at http://stars.atlantissoftware.co.uk/starsjrc4.exe
But sadly that link is not operational anymore. Does anyone have it, and can give us a link?
Perhaps it even should be included in the KN-2050 central computer?

The loss of paulcr's site was very regrettable. IIRC, among other things he had web apps for tweaking the Robotoid AI, adding MT parts, and *gush* changing PRTs mid game. I am going to go find something to kick.
