Yes, that's the point.
You have to encounter the races to know which player has which race (its name).

I tried clicking on a player name and the email came up as private...

I thought I saw another player email address not to long ago. Was it changed lately?

No change here. Most games are set up with private emails & I have always done it. The problem with making them public is that AFAIK non-players could use them.

But that's stupid. Because no negotiations would happen anyway until the races encounter each other. All making the names public would do is make things easier once you have encountered them.
