The three engine traits. What do you think of them as applied to HE?

My own impressions so far -

IFE - Not as necessary due to the Mini-Coloship with Settler's Delight making the FM for pop moving irrelevant. Still nice for early scouts and so forth that can't have Settler's Delight engines on them.

NRSE - Mixed bag. On the one hand, without IFE you need at least one cheap engine that can go warp 9, and NRSE doesn't supply that Thumbs Down . As well, you have less Germanium hassles than other races, so you can better afford the ramscoops Thumbs Down . And on top of that you have no gates so have more fuel hassles Thumbs Down But you at least have the Settler's Delight Thumbs Up and have Docks everywhere to refuel Thumbs Up and don't have to worry about mass for gating Thumbs Up .

CE - Even worse than for everyone else. Because you have no gates, and more fleets, CE will hurt you far more.

Hi!

NRSE - Mixed bag

Being gateless makes HE less mobile. So IMO getting W-10 capable engine ASAP is very important. Also researching past prop-11/12 JUST to get better engine (with immunity no better terra available) looks to me as a waste of resources. I'd say the NRSE is a MUST for HE.

My my 2 cents anyway.

IMO, NRSE is the only one to take just for the points to try and get an extra % of growth.

IFE isnt needed if your a 3i race since you will beable to find plenty of planets just with blind colonization without scouting, but if you want to know where your nabours are then you will still have to build scouts, id just wait to mass produce them till the radiation ramscoop.

NRSE for the warp 10 engine but most improtantly the points for an extra growth percent if you include taking prop +75%

CE dont ever take with any type of race since when it comes to battle you have to beable to know your fleets are gonna get where they are needed.

On the other hand, having no IFE means you have no Fuel Miser. So what are you going to put on scouts? Frigates? DDs? Cruisers? Probably the DLL 7, which is NOT a fast engine either in battle or in space.

In the same post there you've got "take NRSE" and "wait for radram". Am I the only one who notices something wrong here?

if you take NRSE without IFE then you obviously will need to use the DLL 7 engine for your first scout horde. I was just breaking each down individualy as to why id pick them or not. Its up to you which ones you would pick.

On scouts: QJ-5
FFs and DDs: DLL-7
Early CCs: DLL-7
Mid-game CCs and BBs: AD-8

All but QJ-5 are quite good engines. If you worry about fuel, then just pair each ship with a standard engine with one empty MiniCollonizer with Settler's Delight. IIRC at W-4 it refuels by 96mg fuel each turn. So no more fuel problems in just one or two turns.
