I am currently in a game where I am using the AR viral weapon in large numbers 200+ instead of bombers.

- First arrive at enemy colony kills 388k of pop with 220 Pintas (no packet) - 675k of pop reading from overhead.

- 2nd turn (packet hits) msg has 37.8k of pop killed with 220 Pintas overhead - 378k of pop reading from overhead.

Any ideas?

It is affected by defenses, you know.

As Magic9 says, defences do apply.

AR viral bombing kills pop but does not destroy infrastructure.

Year 1
220 Pintas kill 388k so the planet had about 11.8% defence coverage.

Year 2
1. If the packet was launched in Year 1 then 11.8% defence coverage still applied
2. If the packet was launched in Year 2 then production occured first so your oponent had time to build more defences.

Bombing occurs after production & I presume that viral bombing is no different.

Tks - Defenses applying to viral weapon is a pain. For some reason, I thought that it did not apply.

If it didn't, then that weapon would be OMFG HAX.

Simply sending a few LBU bombers with the viral fleet will take care of the planetary defences. After all what do you care for the factories? its not like you can use them anyways.

Just a curious offtopic question:
Why are you using pintas instead of bombers?
Lacking tech? But with the ability to build 220 pintas, it shouldn't had been a problem to reach weap-8.

Remember the original premise, that defenses didn't apply against the viral bombing. Given that belief, I'm not surprised he went with the colonizers. He's probably kicking himself now, but at least there is the proverbial silver lining. They still do some damage and he's got enough colonizers for the rest of the game... and when he does clear a planet he can immediately plant a colony there.

It is an ally game (LSD). My HE ally could use the Fac/Mine intact. I have gone to using Packets instead of Pintas, they work just as well. There is no lack of ammo, just a lack of transports to get the minerals to the MDs Smile
