I've been in a few stars games, and its always the same. There are two kinds of stars players, those who can't wait for the next turn, and those who just play whenever. That second kind of player has no concept of what it means to hold the game up for everyone else. They usually post at the last minute consistently, and of course will inevitably miss turns too. The rest of the players in an effort to be fair will try to accommodate the tardy player. The net effect is the game is slowed way down for one or two players. My question is this, how many turns can be missed by one player before they are asked to be replaced? I am not talking about real legitimate obstacles that are usually predictable and not long lasting, I'm talking about just inconsiderate habitual tardiness. I know I signed on for a slower paced game, in fact it was of primary importance that there not be a turn due everyday. I'm just looking for a rules clarification.

I think I agree with the "no concept" part. A person like this is often not aware that he/she is being annoying, or that others might think him inconsiderate. The first step, IMHO, is to "educate" the person. Let the person know that others like the game to move quickly, and that getting a turn in early is appreciated by the other players, and that missing turns, or always being the last person in, WILL be noticed by other players. We can also let a person know that such actions will also make it harder to get alliances in the game, as other players will not trust that the player is reliable. A simple request and explanation to the player might help quite a bit. It is better than than threatening to boot the person. Of course, it also may not help, and then tougher courses of action can be taken.

Your public notice might have done the job. Or maybe someone could have sent a message to the host, asking that these things be explained to the player. Maybe the host already sadi something! I am just saying there are first options that are better than threats.

I also would like the game to move a little faster. But I also know that there were one or two times when work was SO busy that I was the last person in, despite the small amount of time it currently takes for me to do a turn. One turn I almost missed it.

And despite what I have said here, I have been guilty of brash behavior in Stars! games, and this has reduced the fun for myself, and for other players. I prefer not to take that route again.

The fact that we all do not have IFE means this game is starting out VERY slowly. This may have something to do with the level of frustration on turn frequency. This is the first game I have ever played without IFE and I am willing to bet that more than a few players are annoyed with the speed upto this point, with the possible exception of those playing IT.

The original premise of starting 3 gens per week in 2420 would have been reasonable if we all had IFE, but we don't. The recent vote on keeping the gen rate at MTWTF was a disappointment. Possibly this should have been voted as delaying the start of MWF gens until someone requested the game be slowed down.

I like to micro-manage but at this point, it takes a wopping 15 minutes to do a turn if I really obsess over every possible detail, take a bathroom break, and have a beer. Razz

Hi,

skipping three turns in a row without warning to me is a reason to be replaced, but I already said that so I guess you're asking how many turns NOT in a row? I can't put a number on that, no way for me to tell if it's on purpose or not ... Confused

There _are_ people who have busy lives. A turn every two days is as advertised, having one extra is a bonus, not a _must_ (although nice Grin).
I too like a higher pace, I did not expect that these settings would make such a slow start, the more reason for me to chose IFE next game again, Grin

regards,
mch

Well, in fact by vote someone _did_ requested the game to slow down ...
As I said before the effect of no IFE really got me by surprise ...

Turns are still fast indeed but I always enjoy planning the use of every mg fuel, in this game even more important Grin

I must say that I am enjoying the equal footing concepts in this game. Everyone has the same settings but different races, and everyone has the same number of allies. One or less. Very good balance. I am enjoying it.
