Hello,

I am currently having problems logging into the host utility for my game Crowded Disco (game filename: disco)

When I try to log in I get this message:
Access DENIED
Host Utility must be operated from Stars! AutoHost web site.

I am operating it from the AH site so I have no idea what is wrong.

Cheers,
Peptis

Ps. It has been working fine right up until today.

Are you running any kind of caching software on your computer, any kind of 'Internet speed-up' software?

AutoHost detects the IP address that it is running from, and if it is not the AutoHost server itself, it shows that error message. (this was done to prevent people from attempting to make their own versions of Host Utility and then use them to hack/edit games on AutoHost)

AutoHost has a lot of peculiarities. Smile

Ever since upgraded, the HWF, back when the files were screwed up for a week or so... (Bet you never knew this) Smile I have lost my login cookies and have not been able to get them back no matter what I have tried. I have to log in manually each and every time. Aaaarghh! Yet, all, I repeat all (and there are many) other sites recognize and remember my user names and passwords. After deleting all history and temporary and references to cookies, what more can a human being who is just a computer user do to get his cookies back? This appears to be a problem that needs to be resolved by the commander in chief. Us grunts can only do so much within our limits. I guess that's just the way the cookie crumbles, eh? Crazy

I do not suppose that there is any possibility that you accidentally set your browser to not accept cookies from the AutoHost site is there? What browser are you using? Have you tried it using a different browser?

I have done nothing to change my cookies settings that I know of. Except delete a bunch of history after I lost my cookies. All my cookies are working except AutoHost. I don't even know how to disable the cookies for just one site using IE browser. I am not going to change browsers just to get one cookie back. I want to have my cookie and eat it too.
This problem started after Ron changed the HWForum from the old to the new address and he had to edit all those files to fix the changeover. Before that I had no cookie problem.

Why don't they call them flakes instead of cookies?
They seem awful flakey to me. Rolling Eyes

Great! I once worked for Sears as a technician a couple years and lost my marbles.
Then I got on the internet and lost my cookies.
I guess next I will lose my balls and have to stop playing golf. Very Happy

But I'm working on it. After I finish my law degree I am starting on my computer degree. But then when will I do my accounting degree to figure out the tax codes? Very Happy

I have to admit that I do not know how to manage the cookies stored in IE since I avoid it as much as I can. Sorry that I was not able to help... Sad

Interesting philosophy. But I don't understand it?
Supposedly IE 6 is better than Netscape 6.1, faster loading webpages for example. Netscape 4 versions were greatly lacking in features by comparison to IE5 series.
Also IE 6 does include a privacy manager which may block or allow user defined cookies. (No I didn't do this) Outlook Express 6 includes some enhanced security features.
I put some samples of my songs on my personal webpage and at least one Netscape user has trouble downloading WMA files and viewing java scripts on the homepage. Java was one of the many features not engaged in older versions of Netscape, but he is using new version.
But then I use windows operating system and IE is also made by the Microsoft so they probably have some secret advantages in windows environment. Rolling Eyes What operating system are you running?

Netscape 7 you say? To quote someone:
Quote:

First off, nothing's a contender for Internet Explorer. You could make the world's best browser, a browser that dispenses free cash and massages one's shoulders with aromatherapeutic oils, and it's not going to defeat Internet Explorer unless Bill Gates drives over the everyone's house and installs it himself. I'd like to say Internet Explorer is entrenched on its own merits, because there is a whole bunch I like about the software. I'd like to say that, but you know, I know, and the Justice Department knows that inertia, ignorance, and intertwined installation programs have stamped that possibility out.
Laughing
Or ponder this quote:
Quote:

The benefit that this provides for Microsoft should be evident. Putting it simply, this means that any program a Windows machine runs becomes like a "sub-program" of Internet Explorer (yes, even Netscape Navigator) and because of Microsoft's dominance, software developers have to bear this in mind as they develop their products. They may not like it, but commercially they have no choice. This is the sort of trick Microsoft have been employing since the get-up-and-go, but it has landed them in trouble with the American Department of Justice who have labelled their desktop integration as uncompetitive and monopolistic.

As far as I know nothing has changed on my computer between the time the host utility was working for me and now. It could be something that my university has done to the way I access the internet but I seriously doubt it.

I have managed to log in from home, but I still cannot log in here from uni.

Hmm, I wonder if your university is using a caching server of some sort.
