What kind of SS Race would do better in a medium universe?

1: IFE,NRSE,OBRM,NAS
19%
1/7 grav immune
10/9/15 no g
10/3/15
Weapons cheap, rest expensive ,start at 3

2:IFE,OBRM,NAS
19%
1/4 hab no immune
rest the same

3: going with narrow hab ( 1-5 or 1-6 no immune )for paying better fabs perhaps 12/9/16 3g

4 going with narrow hab for paying better tech ( weapons cheap, constructon cheap, elecronic normal)

Race # 2 would do better because it has more planets. That being said, you could get away with 18% pgr and put those extra points into more factores. 18% growth with 12-13/8/14 factories is much better than 10/9/15. Consider using re-gen shields also. The Shadow shield is going to be a mainstay component for some time.

Though we often ask how and why, we must also do to get the answers to the questions.

With those LRTs and 18% PGR your should be almost able to get what Ptolemy suggested: hab 1 in 4 non-immune (2w, 1n); 12/8/15/4g; 10/3/15; W cheap start @3. You could even throw in RS. With 1 in 5 hab you can change mines and facs to 16 operated. With cost 9 facs you can get 3g facs. If you don't value tech start @3 you could fiddle with something and have con or el normal. Horses for courses. Smile

edit: You know, I thought about this to see if you can 'get it all'. Well, I couldn't. But if you use 18% PGR and right edge narrow rad and make it 30 wide, and take a hit on fac cost, you can get something a bit less usual that *might* be playable.

- 1 in 4 non-immune starting hab (eventually 45% coverage which is a bit light but possibly adequate. Can you say Robber Baron? Wink)
- OBRM, NAS, RS only
- 12/9/15/4g facs; 10/3/15~16 mines
- 2.5 cheap tech (no start @3)
- a few points left over to whatever (min concs?)

WIthout IFE/NRSE the trouble spot for a while is probably the engines, but with prop normal you should be able to make it to radram, which is usable with this hab scheme. At further cost to econ (say, 11/9/15 facs) you can get 3.0 cheap techs - good for toy lovers> And lets face it, you don't play SS unless you love toys.

Cheers,
S.
