Other than the usual pain-in-the-ass god-I-hate-it problems of CE, I was wondering what the *particular* disadvantage of CE is to the PP prt.

Is it *just* that you can't travel in the belly of the W8 and W10 packets? Or am I missing something blindingly obvious?

Well, CE doesn't have a particular *advantage* for PP either ... You'd think you could use packets instead of freighters so the CE won't hurt in mineral distribution ... but freighters are just cheaper than packets that it is not worth it IMHO. If you want to use packets for minerals you have to pay the initial cost for the mass driver (target+destination), the extra cost of resources+minerals for each packet, ... freighters have a one time only cost ... and you can change course along the way ... besides you need them for you cols anyway ...

PP packets have no mineral cost AFAIK, so distributing major part of minerals with packets is ... viable tactic for PP.

PP is hard to design competive enough. It lacks RW points for essential things. I have always had CE with a PP in game.

Only problem with CE is that you do not know if your fleet will move or not unless it travels at warp 6 or with gates. Warp 6 is generally about twice slower than you need. Gates you have only at few places. Nod IT with CE can just outbuild one without CE. PP is weak; can outbuild noone. So ... got to love gambling with it.

Ah, true, no mineral cost ... only played PP once (in a duel) ...
Still it will cost you minerals if you throw the packet at a higher speed than your drivers rating, unlikely with the big massdrivers a PP gets later on but at the start ships move them faster ...
