The game is called hex and called for 6 players. I assume thats the connection. Now that we have 9, we are halfway toward a second game. wOOt 2

We have also decided that it will be a reasonably close game (location wise). I wonder if there is a way to split the group and possible create 2 games. Maybe separate players by experience: complete newbs and non-first timers. Or if there are 6 completed race files, go ahead and start that game. Or any other idea that might be shared. Whisper

Hmh.... Well.. I was hoping to play in both games.. Just cause I wanted to have some fun... But.... Hmm... Hex 1.5 that's um... About what you said, Seporating absoulte nubs from non-first timers. Also, my friend that I brought in would be in one game and I in the other. And that just didn't make me smile.

Alright, I like 6 players anyway, it's more room to stretch out. Which is good if you happen to get yourself in a low hab situation. Though 8 does provide more contact information. Hmm... Alright... So do we want to split into two games? I'd be happy to host both, no biggy on my part. I can do that. Twice the expirence!

Anyone have any objections with me playing in both? or should I just stick to one game?

I'll host:
Hex I (As originally spesified)
and
Hex I 1/2 (As currently spesified)

And Either A) we split ourselves up into two groups or B) We have Madman split us up by expirence. (I like A myself cause then I can play with my friend. Like I'd told him when I invited him into all of this.) Surprised

Well, the connection is kind of loose. Zoiker offered a game, then disappeared leaving some interested players, so Captain Maim has taken it up. The game name is just what he wanted to do.

I think that's the most important things are to get as many players in a game is possible, and to have the 'right' universe size for the number of players (I'd say 6 in a medium normal is too few, others might disagree).

I only know the race designs, not how well people play them Smile . I could suggest a split, but in some ways that's a bit of a dilemma, as I also have some idea the various different race types are likely to interact if they start next to each other (e.g. for a hypothetical example if a quickstart warmonger starts next to an AR), and it would be subconsciously tempting to put them in different games. I shouldn't want to interfere with the blind luck of that though.

One (hopefully unecessary) comment - you are wanting to play in the same game as your friend. You will already know this, but I hope he realizes that there are no pre-game alliances? Just because you know each other doesn't mean you might not get to beat each other up (this can be a trap for people new to multi-player games).

Yeah I know, I'm not making an alliance with him.. Though, it doesn't mean I won't some time down the road.. Nor does it mean I won't negotiate with anyone else... But I KNOW I won't if he's not in the game.. That's all. heh... He's still free to make his own alliances in game. This is his first game, and he's... Um... Ultra green. So I thought a friendly hand would be advantagous to him. I don't know what race he has, nor anything about it, just that he's started working on one. Plus I remember last time I had a pregame alliance (before I knew anything about them) It managed to earn me rapid opposition and I'd really rather not get that. Smile Well, at least rapid opposition from the intermediate players. Some others were much less instantly hostile. In short, "I've learned my lesson." Confused

Also... I kinda like 8 in the game, 9 seems like we're pushing it but then again I've not tried it. I think the game I did way back when was 12 in medium dense. And it was still 400ly. Plus there's empty space anyway, there's probably some more room if no one complains. You said 9's your max on medium normal. Hmm... Maybe we should up the density. I'd suggest (to the players, not to Madman) that doing some tests with expert 8 and 9 AI's (to get a feel for the spacial constraints) might be a good way to judge things. (Oh and try to pretend that the AI's a player and will take unkindly to you killing his people when they take a planet ahead of you.) I dunno if that's the typical way to judge one's space constraints but I think it might give a decent sense of the whole thing.

Welcome aboard Swetie! It's about time.

What kind of commision rates do we get here? my 2 cents Yoey's recruiting service is hard at work.

I think it'd be fun to keep everyone in the same game instead of splitting into two different games. If it turns out that we have too many players, we should just adjust the universe size/density. I won't mind if the game is renamed to Octo I or Deca I or whatever.

I'm currently playing my first AH game ever, and it's 13 players in medium packed. I went into it thinking that this is waaaaay too crowded, but it's turning out to be not nearly as bad as I thought it'd be... so I think that 8 or 9 players in medium packed won't be that bad...

I think medium-packed with all the current players would be great. Just call it Novem. I hope we can start soon though, as it has been almost a full month since I first started hoping to play in this game.

Just so everyone knows, I'm ready to go. My race's to a point I think I can be happy with and I'd like a ping back on everyone else's status.

You know what? Your right.. WHat the HECK! Let's pack it! LOL I've had 12 in a universe this size and they are (as I said) STILL the same distance apart. Besides I like the larger group, because it opens up trade relationships. Plus I'm just a softy, (as in, I can't go around splitting up what rare stars playing couples there out there.)

Oh well, 10 players in this universe it is. Anyone mind if I up the density? To Packed? That, or alter the size to large and normal...

Who wants to up the size and who wants to up density? Or both? Or Neither?

Anyone care about my goofy idea of alphabetizing sections of the map? "A" sector, "B" sector, etc... I don't mind... I've done harder starmap work. Very Happy

Packed is fine... although I do prefer larger maps with fewer stars (makes it more tactical, in my opinion). Just so that you know, though, I'm not running an IT race! It just makes people think more about what forces they deploy where, etc.
Large(huge?)/sparse or Med/Pack, I don't mind.

who needs voicemail when we have... SAH forums! Whisper

i have lost count of the number of players, but 10 players in a normal dense is ~36 planets with ~340 Ly between HW. Normal Packed is ~46 @ ~340 Ly. Large Normal is ~50 @ ~500 Ly.

I'm down for the Normal/Packed.

My prelim race is sent in and will be sending in revised version by Monday or so.

Either Normal/Packed or Large/Normal would work for me; doesn't matter which of those two people decide on.

Oh what the heck. Large Normal or large dense if recruits continue to come... (I'll have to play test that one.
Shouldn't be too bad.) What's the player count upto? 12???

Are you joining too ADG Wraith?

To be honest, I'm just fine calling this HexaDecmal I, but I'll probably just rename it given the runaway nature of our recruiting.

The more the merrier. But I *AM* Stopping at 16! Try as you might, BEG as you may, I won't include you in the same game as the rest of players! Oh! Stop that now! Groveling won't make me change my mind! I'm sorry, bribery won't work either and that's final! I seriously hope I've made myself clear. Laughing Whip

Madman, can you post a roster?

Yes you are, at least you have a race in. Go to:

http://starsautohost.org/sahforum/index.php?t=msg&th=283 6&start=60

for the list of races I have so far - eight so far, with two more players yet to send races.

And whoever else is playing, get your races to me (I prefer PM to email - it seems to be more reliable).

I've been giving quite detailed feedback on races, so I suppose I'll have to be consistent *sigh*.
