Alright - while I am perfectly aware of Rons posting concerning they "will not offer help or support for any problems caused by a modified .exe file", I have decided to ask one or the other question in this thread, that neither I nor my supporters are able to answer or solve.

OFC I cannot (and do not) expect any help from the Jeffs or MC, but maybe they'll change their mind on one or the other issue, or somebody else might be able to give useful hints.

I'll start with these two:

a) where / how is the version number shown on the splashscreen stored? I'd like to change colour, font and maybe add the release candidate version number (yes, I can do that via bitmaps, but that won't let me get rid of the original insert). Especially in case of 2.6jrc4 the colour is just... strange.

b) in 2.6, how do I ensure the splashscreen keeps its resolution (like in the retail version) rather than popping to desktop size? Interesting enough, in 2.7 the resolution required for the title graphics is 640*480, while in 2.6 it is 800*600, explaining the difference in file size.

TIA to anybody willing to help.

I have the feeling they don't check their e-mail prvided at the Crisium site..... don't tell me if you have another. I can imagine if they got funding, Jeff's update the website, starting with clearing their computer of the thousands of E-mail letters they got. HOsting your own web site = fun because you can make your own E-mail service with a nice 40GB file size tansfer limit Twisted Evil

To put it straight: I'd really need help on this one.

Reducing the (resource) cost of TF doesn't seem to work properly when using StarEd to do a modfile based on Stars! 2.60j rc4. As one of my testers / players has pointed out, the cost for TT TF shows correctly in the tech browser, but in a planets production queue it still has the original value from Stars!.

Certainly, that isn't supposed to happen after editing the value with StarEd. I am not sure whether this is due to StarEd not addressing the right values in the exe or whether the value for TF concerning real production is somewhere hardcoded in the exe or sumsuch.

I'd really appreciate support in that matter, whoever may be able to help.

Anybody know whether 2.6j rc4 addresses the "cheap starbase bug" cheat? I know it deals with horizontal / vertical minefield travel and SS popsteal especially, but what about the bases?

Maybe someone from MC would be willing to help to do a j rc5 or sumsuch, just in case the "cheap starbase bug" cheat was still possible with j rc4.

Who knows about other problems still in the Stars! exe, that could make a j rc5 worth the effort?

It wasn't fixed in 2.6jrc4.

I'd still need help with this one. Stuart, the author of StarEd, calls it a "production queue override" and says he's unlikely to get this fixed.

Does anybody else have an idea or know a way how to change TF cost for the production queue? I really need to lower it to take away some of CAs superiority by making something cheaper for other PRTs, that CA gets for free.

Thanks in advance for your support,
