If you are undergoing punishment when the armistice ends (2450?) do you still have to serve the remainder of the sentance?

However Dogthinker,
Since you are the 'breaker of the Armistice' and currently suffering a 6 year ban, somehow I don't think you need to worry about laying minefields for another 4 or 5 years.

Just use battle orders of 'Attack Neutrals & Enemies' with primary and secondary targets of none/disengage. You should still sweep the mines.

Are those orders enough to not start a combat? You might not shoot, but is it enough to prevent combat entirely?

If you use tactics with primary and secondary targets of none and Disengage then you won't initiate any combat since you have no targets. If someone attacks you, you may still end up defending yourself. However, it is the battle orders that will determine who initiated combat and with these orders it won't have been you so you can not be required to suffer a ban. However, since these orders are set to attack neutrals and enemies they should still sweep mines.

I am quite certain that with no primary or secondary targets specified and with disengage orders the armed vessel will simply leave the battle board. It will never fire - especialy on an unarmed ship. An armed ship that attacks and gets into range may get fired back on.

YEARS 2440-2449
Combat against Unarmed Vessels..............Ban for 3 Turns
Combat with Armed Vessels (1)...............Ban for 1 Turns
Bombing Occupied Planets....................Ban for 3 Turns
Dropping Pop (2)............................Ban for 2 Turns
Packet Flinging (3).........................Ban for 2 Turns
Detonating Minefields.......................Ban for 2 Turns
Negative Terraforming.......................Ban for 1 Turns
(1) The attacking player suffers the penalty. This is determined by battle orders. If both players have orders to attack each other, then the player that fires first in the combat VCR suffers the penalty... UNLESS an orbital installation fires first. Then it shall be considered that the Starbase/Stardock/Fort is under attack, and therefore the defending side.
(2) On a populated planet belonging to another player, obviously.
(3) Only if the packet causes damage upon reaching its destination.
