Yup. The pages show it being two hours ago. Mad

With how frequently this has been happening lately, it seems like it would be best to not put games on hold when it happens, and rather let them continue where they left off. If I'm not mistaken, players can still upload their turns when the server is frozen, right? Confused

Oh, and BTW, after one player submits his turn we may need your services for the Together Again game again, Ron. Thanks for taking us off hold last time that happened. Smile

Yep - players can upload their turns, but the game page won't update itself to show that this has happened....

Oh, and I believe that your host for Together Again has net access from his hotel, so Ron's help shouldn't be necessary...

He sounded quite narked last time.... Wink

Cool

Just a thought, but perhaps instead of putting games on 'hold' they could be set to just skip the next turn. If the game is set to gen when every one is in, that would still be in effect. If it's a fixed gen, then there would be a missed turn, perhaps the host could set the turn to gen as normal if everyone is fine with that.

Ahh. Maybe, maybe not.
The game was only held up for 10 hours.
So if they were all in then it was for the current gen.
So it would have genned and then set the next gen to 26 hours.
Would it not ?

I think the game being on hold confused it and when taken off hold it looked for the next gen ... being Thu 23.00 and it was 21.00 at that time ...

Taking a game off hold is a tricky thing. When hosting I always try to make sure all players are in before taking the game off hold because sometimes the game gens right away thinking it's gen time is overdue ... hm, this maybe explains the gen after two hours? When taken off hold the game checks it's gen time and not if all players are in or not, so the reason for genning was not "all players" in but the Wed 23.00 gen? If so it would not add 24h ... ? Confused

(my head hurts Wall Bash Smile )

yep.. always look at what time it says it is gonna gen...

even leave it ON HOLD and look again..

a lot of the time i set it to a date in the future.. just to get it back on track...

then take your games off hold.. beats regeneration!! Nod

What I did back when I was hosting was turn off all gens (set to fixed, but with no gen times set) then come off hold, wait 2 minutes for AH to cycle through, then set up the times again. Overkill I know, but it only takes a few minutes more and you can be certain the game won't multi-gen Smile

Does this current Autohost freeze follow the same rules as the other flavour?

ie - If we upload, although we can't see it, has it happened?

You know what I'm try to say.... Wink

Well, applause to Ron for acting on this the same day. He could just as well have been on vacation or whatever it was at some previous cases where the freeze lasted DAYS.

So no whining, please.

Well except, perhaps this one: all gamehosts should have a remotecontrolled powerclamp attached to their balls (excuse me) and that clamp should be eligible for activation through the relevant gamepage on SAH.

As it is now, us mortals can only sit and wait and HOPE that the host actually bothers to check his mail and see that his game is paused.... Rolling Eyes

I can take your game off hold as well. Though please keep in mind sometimes it's tricky to take a game off hold if not all players are in.

You can always mail me as well: micha /at/ starsautohost /dot/ org
Or you can find me at the IRC channel #stars! under "mch" or "mch_mac" (last one when I'm at work). Always online when I'm at work, though I've got 1.5 week vacation now. Smile

No. And I was sincere. Ron is doing a good job and for no money. That's really outrageous by todays standards.

In this respect, I agree entirely.

Ron does a great job, and people seem to forget that he does have a Real Life, and can't be in front of a computer screen 24/7...

I have an issue with the uppy-downiness of the server, but that's not his fault at all...

You know, if every one of us donated, like, $1 / year...
...we could more than get a really sturdy hosting solution.

Hmmm....

Confused

Surely 1$ won't do, but anyone is probably welcome to donate him money.

You say you don't want adds, Ron, but you could set up a Paypal account, I suppose?

Now that's a good idea....

You could even pay with credit cards.. a drop in the ocean as far as my bill is concerned... Smile

The question is, how much work would the migration involve?
