Ouch! That's a bit *too* flashy for me
We had lots of thunderstorms the other day from Hurricane Katrina moving north near our area. Even here at work, we had 4 power outages that day.
The admin's house where SAH server is, had several power outages, some longer than 2 hours.
He has a used LARGE battery backup system, but is waiting for help setting it up (not from me, but someone else) for his rackmount servers in his house. (The guy's got 24megabit speed up AND down into his house (he's the sysadmin for a local ISP))
He's upset by the power outages also, as it affects all his servers, not just SAH. When his home mailserver is down, he can't check his own email, just like I couldn't check SAH email the other day. He uses VOIP phones, and that server was also affected.
As for donations, I don't think I've ever asked for them. Jeff McBride agreed with me that the Stars! community had had free access to SAH etc for so long that it would put a damper on things if any Stars! site started asking for donations, and that was years ago when I talked with him about it.
I believe I've received around $550 total in donations since I started SAH in May, 1997. A little over $400 of that is from one person in Europe who has donated during Christmas the last two years. I asked the person if they wanted some recognition on HWF, and they said 'no'.
I wouldn't mind putting up a little avatar-like graphic for those who have donated, but Stars! community members are just so modest.
I do have a very nice collection of postcards, though! Think I have around 8-10 I still need to scan and post on the page.

Looks like a replacement hard drive is needed.
While trying to find the secret corner where Ron has hidden the paypal button, I stumbled upon this old thread.
But for those without a fast connection to download 350kb of postcards to find the paypal button, another paypal button somewhere else would be probably quite handy.
