Hiya everyone.....

what do you think about the "Stickys"...personally i think they are getting too Sticky...as in too many stickys in one thread gets a little confusing....

I was thinking....maybe a new "Sticky forum" could be started where only mods can move what is Sticky to this new forum......

For example The Academy has 6 stickys......This could be moved to a new forum called......
Stars! - Must Know

A topic can be started anywhere...but once it gets sticky worthy...it can be moved to this new Sticky forum.....

What say you?

.....just a sticky idea........hope its not too sticky though Smile

regards

I think that's a good idea. I'd been thinking of bringing parts of the StarsFAQ site to the forum as stickies for some time now, like the Guts of Tech Trading and the Stars! Order of Events (which recently already made it to a sticky) but always hesitated because too many stickies in a "normal" part of the forum gets confusing ... especially for newbies ... some time ago I got into Space Empires IV and their forum had that problem, too many stickies ... (I stopped playing after 2 trial games, by far not as good as Stars!)

The Academy would be cleaned out and the new forum would be a kind of like the StarsFAQ but not depending on one person (who is, as already noted, not that active anymore in this community).
"Must Know" could be the name, or maybe just StarsFAQ? (that will afterall be a big part of it, and it would be kind of like a tribute) With some explination of what's inside the forum ...

Personally, I think "stickies" should only be updatable by the mod...

They can get a little out of control when treated like an ordinary thread.... Confused

Cool

The mod could move only the first post to the sticky forum and keep that updated (like the Bug post is kept update ... uhm more or less Grin) or make a new post in the sticky forum ... the rest of the thread could keep going on in the Academy without being a sticky ...

yupper.......

The New "Sticky" Forum will be writable by only a few ppl/mods......if a post in the Sticky Forum need to be updated based on threads in other forums...the mods will then do so....by copying/moving only the relevant "stuff" ......

SEIV has alot of good ideas. I especially liked being able to upgrade componets on ships, instead of scrapping the whole design. MM wasn't that big of a deal, and I also like the maintenence aspect that limits fleet sizes.

A couple friends bought it and we played enough to try a multiplayer game between us. Unfortunately...the first combat was a huge let down when I destroyed an entire fleet that was the same size of mine in the first volley. I took no damage... We looked at each other and said in unison "That sucks" and never played it again.

Ok, new forum created. Moderators, feel free to start moving sticky threads/posts.

Not sure how you'll indicate in the new forum that something has been updated. May also need a new post in the actual thread in the new forum with a link to the 'continued' thread in the Academy/Bar etc.

Ok, new forum created. Moderators, feel free to start moving/spliting sticky threads/posts.

Just remember, you can't merge two threads back into one if you change your mind!

I made a copy of the first post of sticky in the new forum, this way the original thread stays intact.

Unfortunately yes. Sad When the topics are no longer stickies they'll shift down and later additional posts will become seperate threads ... Would have been nice to be able to merge them with the first thread again at some point ...

Just like EDog posts a new message to bump his Player Ratings in the Duelling Club ...
The new message could have a note of what has changed in the original topic, what bugs were added for example, and possibly indeed a link to the discussion in the original thread where that change came from ...

Thanks Micha. The stickys are a bit annoying, esp. if one is updated and you have to scan through to find which one.
