Hey Ron! Years ago Autohost was wonderful.

I got interested in a new game and quit playing Stars for about 3 years, maybe longer. Suddenly, with renewed interest in Stars I began searching the web for Stars related sites, hoping to join a game. Most of the sites have dried up and been abandoned, but Autohost is still here and better than ever!

I just wanted to say thank you for hanging in there, and maintaining this site for everyone. Thanks a lot, I love this website. Very Happy

Without Stars Autohost, the game would be just another piece of obsolete software we could all fondly reminence about while we played against the AI opponents, BLAH! Puke, hurl, vomit, gag

Wel, if you had a penny for every turn submitted in every game, would you ever have to work again?

Yeah, I'm wondering, how does the autohost work, it uses a computer thats dedicating to generating? I'm considering making a Stars! website as I slowly archive interesting articles on my computer, and find links that still work.... a dwindling number I only have 12 sites in my favorites list, and only know of a few more. Sad Autohost has been holding strong though, and Ron, you're still actually involved.

Laughing I wish! Unfortunetly, I never kept stats on the number of games and turns on AutoHost over the years. Lets assume 500 games, and be generous by saying that each game lasted 200 turns. That works out to one thousand dollars total. So, yes, I'd still have to work Smile

I'm afraid not. Currently its running as a low priority task on our work's web server.

I'm slowly making progress on moving it to a new server that will replace our work's web server (much better hardware)

Someday, it may have its own dedicated server, but that won't be for quite awhile.

Stars! is a great game. Even though I don't have much time to play it (and never considered myself that good at it anyway), this is the only way (currently) that Stars! players around the world can easily host their games and have most of the hosting work done for them.

I like being involved, and everyone needs *some* kind of claim to fame. Smile

Regardless of that fact, I too am greatly appreciative of the work you have done on Stars! Autohost. I've been part of the Stars! community for the last five years, and this site was here before me Smile It's amazing how easy it is to take Autohost for granted. But to commit so many years to producing this great service and wonderful levels of support for absolutely nothing is nothing short of amazing.

We are all most definetly in your debt.
