Um, i don't know if i'm dropping out or what. Although i'm really enjoying the game, i find myself in a position where it's virtually impossible to continue at one turn a day, maybe even one turn every two.

The thing is, since Monday me and my computers have been living in a place with no phone line in an arrangement i hope will be temporary. At the same time i've started a job which i don't get away from until 18.00 GMT and at which i have virtually no net access and no permissions to install. There is a library that i can use, but it's one hour away from home, half an hour from work and closes at 21.30. I have no car, and cannot afford taxis, internet cafes or to get a phone line installed in my temporary home.

Quite heroically, i managed to turn in for Monday's gen (borrowed a bike). I tried yesterday, but the floppy with my .mx file on it corrupted by the time i got it to my windows machine, probably from the rain.

In the meantime, i seem to have dropped down the rankings pretty far, and monday's turn was crap.

So, we can either

  1. Turn the future of the Way of Blob over to another
  2. Reduce to something like once a week until i get my life (ie internet connection) sorted out
  3. begin an unseemly scramble for the spoils of Blobspace

This is my first Stars! game; I'm really enjoying it and i don't want to be classed as a quitter, but with the number of miles i have to cycle- it's taken all the fun out of it and would now have about half an hour of free time a day (which i would probably spend drinking coffee anyway).

Over to ye...

I guess the obvious question is: How long will it take for you to sort your stuff out?

also: Would you like me(us) to try and find a temporary replacement?

[Edit:

I've cancelled the rest of this week's gens while we sort this out. (and reinstated the missing monday gen )

Now to go prod the other players for some feedback... Wink

Having thought about it, it is quite possible for me to manage one gen every two days- download turn on the way home from work, submit the next day. Is that cool for everyone? It has been ruled in accordance with the Way of Blob. We could start next week? I apologise to my trade partners, allies, followers of the Way and so on...

This seems good to me. I still can't reliably do anything on weekends, soit would have to be every other weekday still Rolling Eyes .

No problem for me either.

About Stars! at work , if you use Windows without administrators rights , you can't install Stars! there , but by just copiing the files necessary for the game in your hard disc , you can play stars! without problems. It works fine with me at the university where we're not allowed to install programs... hope it helps...

Since there seem to be no objections to 3 gens a week I'll set it up.

Regarding Stars! without admin rights. I also played stars at unversity. The only hassle I found was having to enter my serial number every time and Stars! not remembering my settings (Window Layout, zoom etc)

Thanks for the tips guys, but my problem is more that i'm only one week into the job and the sysadmins have, shall we say, a TWISTED sense of humour. I get the distinct impression that files which end in .exe might flag my account for further "investigations"...

Anyway- problem sorted: i'm in a new house now, round the corner from a late-night university library and the nice people who put in cable broadband will be round any day now...

24 hr gens are OK again by me.
